Gov. Sarah Palin addresses the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn. - Sept. 3, 2008 (AP)By Pamela Gentry, Senior Political Producer

(ST. PAUL, Minn.) Sept. 4, 2008 – Republicans made history Wednesday night when they nominated the oldest first-time presidential candidate in history, 72-year-old Sen. John McCain, and their party’s first woman vice presidential candidate, 44-year-old Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Delivering her speech in the national prime-time spotlight, Palin attacked her Democratic rivals as Washington insiders, out of touch and incapable of bringing about change. Palin promised that it would be she and McCain who would bring “real change” to Washington.

The fired-up crowd at the Xcell Center repeatedly interrupted Palin with cheers and uproarious standing ovations throughout her speech.

Palin, who has a special-needs son of her own, couched her party as the one that cares about such children, understands the difficulty of parenting a child out of wedlock and what it means to keep American safe amid the threats of global terrorism.

“Victory in Iraq is finally in sight; he wants to forfeit,” Palin said of Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama.

“Al-Qaida terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America; he’s worried that someone won’t read them their rights.

“Government is too big; he wants to grow it.”

The crowd ate it up.

But while the speech was relentless in its assault on Obama, it offered little in the way of what a Republican administration would do to define the difference.

Palin’s speech was one of  two highlights for the relatively lackluster convention so far. Delegates also lined up for a roll call of the states to nominate their  presidential pick Arizona senator McCain.

As Palin spoke, network cameras seemed transfixed  on the vice presidential candidate’s 17-year-old, unmarried, pregnant daughter, Bristol, who held hands with her 18-year-old boyfriend, Levi Johnson.  Johnson the self-proclaimed “red-neck” hockey player, looked tense and uncomfortable throughout the speech.

“Our family has the same ups and downs as any other, the same challenges and the same joys,” Palin said, after introducing her family.

She saved the barbs for Obama. “In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers, and then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change,” she said.

While her speech was filled with tough talk and delivered well to a friendly crowd, the next test will be her first encounter with the national press corps and her first debate with Democratic vice presidential nominee Sen. Joe Biden.

The republican base no longer represents the “moral majority”. The Republican Party is being held hostage by a shrinking base of the “amoral minority” with two issues gay marriage and the rights of the unborn. Oh and they fully support George W Bush’s never ending holy crusade in the Middle East. Issues such as the housing crises, financial crises, energy, jobs, environmental pollution, jobs, health care, and education that affect the rest of Americans who are not gay or who are already born and living outside the womb is beyond their sensibilities. When these people put Governor George W Bush in the Whitehouse they have controlled congress from 1994 to 2006 and the Whitehouse from 2001 and 2008. The country needs reform, the reform is breaking their strangle hold on the country and to bring leaders who are not slices from the same fruitcake.

The National Enquirer cleared up some questions on Palin tonight.

I figured that if the kids were really going to get married, they would have done it last week and avoided this whole mess.

The Enquirer is now reporting the Palin planned a wedding right after the convention and planned to announce the pregnancy shortly after that.

The Enquirer told Levi, the dad, that they had the story and were going to break it. Palin preempted the news by announcing the pregnancy two hours later.

The Enquirer is now reporting that Palin and her daughter are in a war and Palin’s daughter is refusing the marry the guy.

It has a ring of truth to it and I do recall that the Enquirer busted Edwards and Limbaugh.

Yet again another revelation about Gov. Palin ethical & Nepotism challenges:

Palin’s personal attorney on state payroll!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080903/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_palin_troopergate_1

WASHINGTON – A lawyer hired to defend Sarah Palin in an ethics investigation said Tuesday he is representing Palin both personally and in her official capacity as governor.

Lawyer Thomas Van Flein, who also previously represented the Palin family in another matter, said there was no conflict of interest in the dual representation arrangement. Van Flein is permitted to bill the state up to $95,000 for work in the current case, in which Palin is accused by the state legislature of having the public safety commissioner fired after he refused to fire a state trooper who divorced the governor’s sister.

mccain and his handlers — and particularly the ones who are talking anonymously — can argue all they want about how thoroughly gov. palin was supposedly “vetted.” but given the virtually nil personal contact mccain and palin have had, there is absolutely no way for mccain to have thoroughly sized up his running mate before he actually chose her.

mccain has placed enormous trust in his advisors, since his direct personal involvement in selecting palin had all the seriousness and depth of hiring a gd convenience-store clerk. and some of those advisors lied to the public — via the press — by claiming that palin had been vetted by the FBI. as dan balz’ story points out, the FBI does NOT vet political candidates.

do mccain and palin have any chemistry? how could either know, having had such little contact?

no one with walking-around sense would argue that palin would be ready to assume the presidency on a moment’s notice. so far, about all we know about her is that she’s had some success in politics. we have no idea about her intellect, what kind of a thinker she is, whether she thinks seriously at all.

as palin’s political life continues to be revealed little-by-little in a slow peel of the onion, there is every reason to believe she is a control freak who sits on the extreme far-right fringe of the political spectrum.

it is hard to believe the old mccain would have been satisfied with that kind of second chair.

a year ago, i actually thought i might possibly vote for mccain, even though he is much more conservative than i am. NOT NOW. NO WAY. his dramatic leap to the far right in a number of areas amounts to nothing more than pandering to every extreme right-wing kook in the country. and then there’s this embarrassingly phony tip-of-the-hat to women.

that’s not the john mccain who began this long campaign. unfortunately it’s the candidate he has become.

Have we all not heard that birds of a feather flock together and in this case losers, one loser chose another loser to run with him. This woman is a joke and the laugh is on the republicans but keep in mind we were warned they are out of touch and dont really understand what is really going on in this country. John McCain seems like a man who would do anything to save his own skin and since i was not a POW with him how am i to know that he didnt make some kind of a deal to get free or what did he have to do to gain his freedom? Here are a couple of facts from his bio,he was captured in october 1967, he was denied treatment until they found out his father was a top admiral, in december 1967 he was moved into a cell with two other americans (probably to gain information), he was moved to solitary confinement in march 1968,for what, they just move him there for nothing or to beat him in privacy or to treat him differently than the other prisoners, his father became commander of all U.S. forces in 1968 and McCain was offered early release. He has also stated that he thought his release was dishounrable but he then turned back around and worked on restoring diplomatic relations with vietnam in the 1990’s. This man is unbelieveable, amazing is what it is. If someone would have tortured me like this for five and a half years the last thing i would be doing is helping restore diplomatic relations with them. I am puzzled by a statement McCain wrote that “every man has his breaking point”, did not satan say the same to the lord in Job 2:4, and satan answered the lord, and said, skin for skin, yea all that a man hath will he give for his life.

Yes, I agree.

I was very upset, but that’s why we have the freedom of speech.
I was very disturb when Giuliani stated the Republican party was responsible for ending slavery. What?

I don’t think Republican’s felt the same during the Democrat Convention. I almost felt like I was a 2nd hand citizen last night, with the chanting and raving “Country First, USA, and Community Organizer”.

So let me ask one question, Why are the Republican’s stating that he is qualified, because he served in the military?

No one talks about Obama having an Ivy league education.

Where did McCain go to college?John McCain attended the US Naval Academy. He graduated in 1958. After returning from Vietnam, he went to the National War College in Washington DC.

My grandfather was also in the Vietnam War, and he has his Master’s. Maybe I should tell him to run for President? Plus, he has injuries from the Vietnam War.
Ps. This is in response to Patrick and Anthony’s Wife ( who couldnt say her real)?

The truth is America, that in this election year (despite all the main issues to be debated) you are facing the greatest question of all is whether to elect a Minority candidate who clearly represents something that is recently celebrated among minorities – PROGRESS.
The Presidency of the most powerful nation is the ultimate path of PROGRESS, the CEO of all CEOs in the WESTERN WORLD.

This is a referendum on PROGRESS in America and whether the white vote will deny that due to resentment – a reflection of their own inner personal FAILURES and the most ebarressing NATIONAL FAILURE ie. George W Bush.

The world is watching…

I love that a woman can be a v.p. of a country. I agree that she is a great speaker. I also recognize that we don’t need another four years of this party of republican anarchy. It’s great that a woman is on the ticket of any party. It is just that governor Palin is on the wrong ticket for the change we need for one of the most greatest country’s ever.Let’s make something clear John McCain has never been president of a nation before just like Barack Obama. So where is all this inexperience talk coming from about Obama last time i checked McCain hasn’t been a president either. McCain-Palin are asking for four more years of the same reform of the last eight years have given us. no we need a change just not the kind of change McCain-palin will give.

Personally, I could care less about Palin being a hockey mom. Where I grew up in Detroit, we could not even afford the equipment to play on a hockey team; we had to resort to rolling around in refrigerator boxes and making mud pies. In essence, Palin speech was not designed to reach minorities, nor any members of the working poor or working class; it was designed to reach white, suburban, small town families–specifically moms. In addition, she never challenged Biden or Obama on any of the controversial issues plaguing our country. Further, why would she question Obama’s credentials, when she fails to question Biden’s–the man that is also running for Vice President, just like her.

Good Lord! What a racist website! I’m an independent – I disagree with the Repubs as far as abortion and I don’t like to see all the money spent in Iraq (We should have liberated them and took over their oil wells as ‘payment’). I do like the GOP lower taxes/less government. I agree the rich probably need some tax relief since not enough of us are paying, most are getting). Still, I believe Palin’s speech was pretty good. ALL political speeches are written by someone else. It was well delivered and she does seem to be somewhat of a reformer (the girl did go after her own party, afterall – give some Kudos on that! It’s also dumb to dis her for having kids and not to dis Obama for what would be absences from his kids – read non-issue for both!)Don’t want to babble too long, but as a conservative black I’m pleased with Obama’s progress, but really not that impressed with his record. Not a Bush fan either (and really dispise Jimmy Carter) Any way, to me it comes down to one issue – 2 people live side by side, same job, same pay per hour. One is ambitious and works overtime, one works only 30 hrs a week. Why should the ambitious one pay more for that same snowplow (cause your taxes are used for services) coming down the street or that same mailman who delivers both boxes equally, just because he worked harder. The Repubs have a case their – I’m not rich – I am retired from the Army and work full time – but I don’t want other people’s money – I say – Great – glad you make 10X what I make – congrats! I don’t feel they owe me anything! The GOP is far from perfect, but does seem to be fairer.

I think this woman should be checked more thoroughly and vetted more. No one should be able to be a heart beat away from being the president and not checked out! Go OBAMA!

LOL.. It funny how low the standards are for Gov. Palin. I think the media is putting to much on her speech. What has she done? I mean lets be real? Were did they find this woman off of Myspace? I personally believe if he wanted to make REAL Change he should of got Gov. Jindal from Louisiana, not some Soccer mom. We will see, I think it is a gimmick pick. This is a joke, Sen. McCain only met her twice before the pick..lol.. What a Joke

olounwa Said on

If she was so vetted, why are there McCain lawyers all over the place up there?

And how many shredding machines did they bring?

How many briefcases of cash?

Can you imagine what that town is going through right now?

This Levi kid can make a LOT of money off this if he plays his cards right.

If I were him I’d get an agent fast.

I’ll add to my previous blog that if you idiots just sit back and disrespect Palin, you lose the election. Read: She has popular appeal and will attract a lot of whites – you don’t take her seriously and you’ll be seriously disappointed come Nov – you really don’t see how a lot of middle class see a bit of themselves in her?

Obama/Biden 08!!!

I am not sure I can say anything else, you said it all.

However,

I think that Palin is putting women back with what she is talking. Having the government make the choice for us. I do not think so.

After she spoke last night I still do not know what she stands for. Oh, I know it’s not her family. I really did not need her to talk about her family for 4 minutes. All I know that she is putting herself first and not being a mother or wife. Somthing will lack, either her childern, marriage or this country. She wants everyone to think that is this wonderful mother. ok and…. What will she do for my USA. ummm nothing. She wants to hit hard, just wait when she gets hit hard they better not say anything about how hard we hit her back. She started the attacks we will finish them.

Check out factcheck.org most of what was said this week at the GOP was a lie.
