McCain Touts Being a Candidate for Change

Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin at the RNC

By Pamela Gentry, Senior Political Producer
(ST.PAUl, MINN.) The newly minted Republican presidential nominee – Sen. John McCain – touted his presidency Thursday night, saying he is the candidate to bring about change and elevate America above the bipartisanship and disunity of the past several years.

Almost sounding apologetic for the past eight years, McCain told the 18,000 Republican Party faithfuls, gathered at the Xcel Center in St. Paul, “These are tough times for many of you. You’re worried about keeping your job or finding a new one, and you are struggling to put food on the table and stay in your home. All you ever asked of government is to stand on your side, not in your way. And that’s just what I intend to do: stand on your side and fight for your future.”

McCain reminded supporters that he was a “maverick” in the party and that he is ready to unify the nation and “fight” for change.  “Let’s use the best ideas from both sides,” he said.

The video introducing McCain’s life journey focused a great deal on his military service and his years as a prisoner of war.  The presentation was serious, somber and filled with black-and-white photographs and footage that reminded everyone that his life story couldn’t be told in color.

There was no mention of his first marriage or photographs of his three children from his first marriage; his 96-year-old mother was the interview of record for the piece.

But McCain’s age is something C.T. Wright, a 65-year-old African-American delegate from Arizona, told me appeals to him.  “He’s experienced; he knows what he’s doing,” Wright said. “He has courage in life, and he’s overcome even being a prisoner of war.”

Wright, a retired former president of Cheney College in Pennsylvania, moved to Arizona 18 years ago. He was the only Black delegate in the Arizona delegation.  “He’s not a rock start but a solid rock,” Wright said.

McCain told the crowd he wasn’t going to abandon his reputation as a maverick.  “What it really means is I understand who I work for. I don’t work for a party. I don’t work for a special interest. I don’t work for myself. I work for you,” he said.

Lula Bridges, an African-American delegate from Macon County, Ala., told me, “His experience counts.”  Bridges, 51, is a social worker. She said his stance on issues, like abortion and gay marriage, are also important.

McCain may have to do more to woo those conservatives who are still doubtful he’s one of them.

“Again and again, I’ve worked with members of both parties to fix problems that need to be fixed. That’s how I will govern as president,” McCain said.

Double Standards: BET and TV One apparently decided that with Obama already pulling 90-95% of the black vote, they needn’t bother turning any precious airtime over to McCain. In fact, all four nights of the Democratic convention aired on both networks. The GOP convention didn’t air at all. Yet, with less coverage, McCain set a new ratings record.

The Republicans blew one out of the park with the convention.

The Obamacrats are very worried about Sarah Palin and that is why they are attacking her so hard.

Last week, Obama had nine networks covering his speech and attracted 38 million viewers.

However, Palin had only five networks covering her speech and attracted 40 million viewers.

Obamacrats, be scared!!! Be very very scared!!!

McCain-Palin 2008!!!

Country First!!!

McCain is no candidate for change; he’s desperate for power! The masses are hurting and not a bunch of whiners. Our economic woes are very real to the average citizens. This nation cannot stand another four years of the same policies and problems. If country is first, why does he not support our veterans? Hurricane Katrina and Rita devastated many parts of the gulf and Katrina is one of the most destructive storms in US history. Again, if country is first and the people matter, why did he vote against the Hurricane Katrina Recovery Fund?

Palin may be a bit of a bulldog but I don’t think she is ready for the pit-bull arena. Like McBush though she can read a Rove script. I would not vote for her, especially when you consider her past views on wanting Alaska to withdraw from the union. That’s completely ignorant. The GOP campaign scrambled to remove the website links showing her ties Alaska Senator Ted Stevens. It looks like just more of the same old crap!

prophetess,

Palin attacking Obama was not a lynching. Her job is to attach Obama just like Obama attacked McCain. Chill out and enjoy the good fight. This is the most enjoyable run for the presidency that I have ever seen in my life.

I watched Mc Cain speech on tv not because i like him, just because i never heard him speak. It was a mess. It was like watching silient films. Very old material. We dont want to see nothing about a war in a time before I was born. We need to know about the problems of today.

Republican Convention: The whole Republican convention went by without offering a single idea about how to improve the lives of ordinary Americans. ~~~~~~~~

John McCain and the Republicans had all week to make their case — and they didn’t do it. ~~~~~~~~~~

The whole Republican convention went by without offering a single idea about how to improve the lives of ordinary Americans. ~~~~~~~~

Senator Obama clearly speaks out about exactly what we didn’t hear at the Republican convention. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

John McCain believes that the fundamentals of our economy are “strong.”
The media has reported this week that unemployment jumped to its highest rate in five years, and our economy lost 605,000 jobs this year alone. ~~~~~~~~~~~~

All of you should know; the economy is a bust ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Most Americans cannot afford gas ~~~~~

Americans Jobs going, going, gone ~~~~~~~

American Veterans Benefits has been cut, etc ~~~~~

McCain wants to continue the war ~~~~~~~~~

We have a war is going on ~~~~~~~~~

President Bush misused our tax dollars in Iraq ~~~~~~~~~~

John McCain lies, he does not want change! ~~~~ McCain voted with George W. Bush more than 90 percent of the time, and he thinks Americans are falling for his lies. ~~~~~~~~~~~~

Americans are making the right choice and will in November vote for Obama-Biden Ticket. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is not 2000 or 2004! ~~ Republicans like Palin, Giuliani, and Romney can engage in red-meat partisan vitriol all they want, right out of the Karl Rove playbook. ~~~~~~~~~~~~

Americans now have seen the full impact of GOP policies on their pocketbook. ~~~~~~~~~~~

Obama for President and Obama for Vice President!

The Democrates motto, ask not what you can do for your country, but what your country can do for you.
We black people have lost our values and integrity, Obama wants to give us things instead of us doing for ourselves, turning blacks into an entitlement people always looking for a hand out. The blacks who sacificed for us to have a better life are dead or dieing and we are putting our faith in the first black con man we see.

The BIG difference is that Obama is getting party support. Something that the 2000 and 2004 Democratic nominees did NOT have.

Obama/Biden 08!

The media has repeated how important it is to get the “uneducated” voters. They talk about how Obama was not doing good in that realm..but the Republicans have that advantage over him. What the media does not tell you, is that, in their case, “uneducated” does not simply mean someone who does not have a degree…it is a coded word to mean the “ignorant” voter, normally backwards, backwoods minded voter. But, the media can not openly offend the American public.

Now there are very wealthy people who may have “education” that vote Republican, but the Republicans normally know how to “dupe” the uneducated by using fear of the liberal to do it…fear of the “unknown”…fear of someone who is different. The one’s who are most likely to fly the confederate flag type of voters, the religious people who are not exactly following the heart of Christ but are on the extremist side of religion masking it as Christian (hint: Jim Jones and David Koresh style of false Christianity)…those are the voters Republicans attract..and yes, that group even includes black people who support them. It is fine to support pro-life and issues similar…but you have to be brain dead to think that the Republican party really, in general, have displayed the type of care for the poorer people and the type of responsible behavior that many pretend that they have done. Democratic Party have their sins too…but hypocrisy belongs to the Republicans…and so does the failure of the past 8 years. Sarah Palin has shown her great ignorance and hate when she tried to tear down Obama…and she was lying when she did try to do it. At least Obama would try to get some facts before he start to go after his opponents..and he even tries not to attack character..but, McCain and Palin, showing their ignorance attacks the person…but they have nothing else to say.

I believe in black people, my people, have the freedom to choose their presidential candidate..but in this special case and the case of when Bush was elected, if you are black and you favored these candidates, then you are turning a blind eye to the what MLK has fought so hard for us to be…not just to have the freedom to choose, but for us to honor and truly recognize those who do not only serve ourselves but others. Yes, John McCain was a POW for a war that most know and confirmed was not a legitimate war (Vietnam)…there was no need to “fight for our country’s freedom” in Vietnam, that was confirmed by those involved in the decision making of the war….there was no great danger for America’s freedom from Vietnam…therefore, many fought for a cause that was not made legitimate by the government. It is the same for the Iraq war. Plus…i believe in the “what have you done for me lately”…McCain was a POW.but has he done to help the less fortunate lately? What you did a long time ago was what you did a long time ago…and the war was not even one that we should have been fighting. So, Barack, on the other hand, has been in the gut of helping the poor for much of his life..on the front lines of helping those who need it the most right in our own backyard..that is real patriotism. Experience does not mean that you are wise…there are many stupid experienced people.

I really don’t get it,how is it that someone,that have been in office,over 24-26 yrs.Has went along with the program,and since they didn’t have a theam,for themself,they had to use someone else,My God,i know we are a big k
laughing stock in the world. But I do know this, that when one is old, they usely have old ideas.Because they can’t forget the old days. And this is why the word CHANGE,should not be use, when they can only think about the past.I myself would like to see a limit on the age of person to run for office. This whold thing is a mess. This is a setup, from within. Why was it the Vise Preasident, didn’t speak, and they try to talk about the Dems are divided. Now that they have Ms. Pailin,on the ticket,God help us if Mc Cain was to become Preasident. Then Ms. Pailin would become Preasident. Is this what the US Of A Really wants. When we have to deal with the overseas Deals.Because the overseas, don’t like dealing, with women. And to tell you the truth,I myself don’t like dealing with womens, and I’m a woman myself.

This is senseless propaganda, the Republicans obliviously were overshadowed by Senator Obama’s
historical nomination. Within the next day, Sarah Palin was chosen VP for the Republican ticket. How dare the GOP manipulate the American peoples’ vote.
Furthermore, What justification can they offer by picking such a inexperience candidate. As a African American woman Sarah Palin definitely cannot relate to my struggles economically. “Yes” sure she a wife with some kids and so are other African American women who have kid yet are without husbands.
I really feel sorry for her, if she actually becomes VP in November(which she will not)
Her title will read “Political Prostitute and John McCain the Pimp”.

The men in black have flashed their memory stick and they have forgotten the past 8 years and who got us into this mess. This republican convention was told to leave their hoods at home. Strictly white, conservatives. Ronald Reagan said he didn’t know there was a race problem and the republicans love him. These republican people don’t know anything about not making a mortgage/rent payment. McCain is married to a filthy rich beer dealer which he had to sign a prenuptial before he married her. McCain will say or do anything to get what he wants and he has wanted this pre sidency for a long time. She had on a $300,000 outfit at the convention. McCain walks like he doesn’t have a neck because it is eaten by Cancer. Do we want Palin for acting president? No, and Lynn Swann I can’t understand where you are coming from. Being a republican isn’t a status.
