McCain Enjoys First Lead in National Poll

Sept. 8, 2008 – For the first time since Sen. Barack Obama captured the Democratic nomination his Republican challenger Sen. John McCain is leading in a national Gallup Poll, 48 percent to 45 percent.
McCain’s lead over the Illinois senator is the first time McCain has led in the poll since mid-August. The 48 percent ties his largest base among registered voters being polled since Gallup began this national poll in March.
This isn’t the first time following a party’s political convention the nominee has enjoyed a post-convention bounce. Following the Democratic convention Obama peaked with a 5 point bounce in polling. Obama remained in the lead with 49 percent to McCain’s 43 percent in the Gallup poll conducted just before the Republican convention. The serge for Obama after the Democratic convention saw McCain’s poll numbers fall to 42 percent.
McCain’s 5-point to 6-point increase following the convention so far, like Obama’s, isn’t really surprising when you look at convention poll numbers with historical expectations. According to Gallup, in the 22 major-party conventions since 1964, the nominee walked away with, on average in most years, with a 5-6 point increase in their polls.

That same mentality is why the world today is full of misery and despair. It is the reason why we are fighting for change in America. If you can endure four more years of a declining economy, young men and women never living to their potential because of a senseless war that has killed so many of our future leaders. Then you need to vote for McCain-Palin. If you can find work in a society that has outsource so many of our jobs killing our economy yet building other Countries (China) as the #1 economy in the world then go ahead and vote for McCain-Palin. If you and your family can afford the increase healthcare or lack of healthcare then McCain-Palin is your ticket.
But if eight is enough and you can see the vitality of voting for Obama-Biden. Then Obama-Biden is the TICKET. Obama FIRST incorporated Change that now McCain is adopting. A candidate that took the high rode and showed the up most integrity in calling for his campaign not to attack or degrade Palin’s daughter due to her situation. For his empathy he was treated with a series of attacks not only to his character but his efforts to assist to rebuild his community through community service. Go ahead and vote for McCain-Palin who energize their based by attacking another person’s character. If you are inspired by personal attacks, lies and misinformation then I feel sorry for you and the rest of the world who would rather vote for more of the same than Vote for Obama as the next President of the United States. Race will always be an issue. But this time it’s not about race, it’s about survival in the land of the free, home of the brave. America are you brave enough to vote for True Change? If so then vote OBAMA-BIDEN in November!
You have good change and bad change and Obama would be a BAD change. Palin you have my vote. She is a strong women with good values.
Den Stub, My hat is off to you, wonderful post!!!!
(Bebe & Carlene) “Yeah you’re both right, everytime I see Obama he’s trying so desperately to make it in Hollywood, be in the tabloids, and when he speaks he doesn’t talk about anything.” “But McCain and the rest of the Republican party are really in touch with every demographic (Just look at the Republican Convention, nothing but diversity), Speak on the real issues(War, War, War), and the most important thing is that Obama’s politics are more aligned with Bush’s.” “Plus (and in my opinion just because he’s running for the Presidency) Obama was against making MLK as a national holiday then changed his mind to appeal to black voters.”……………………………………………………wait a minute………OH YEAH THAT’S “MCCAIN”…..I ALWAYS GET THOSE TWO CONFUSED………..SENATOR OBAMA IS THE ONE THAT APPEALS TO EVERY DEMOGRAPHIC (NOT JUST MIDDLE/UPPER CLASS WHITE PEOPLE) SPEAK ON REAL ISSUE (ECONOMY, ENVIRONMENT, AND YES WAR IN IRAQ(Al Qaeda, Sunni, Shia, etc ps Not everyone who is different from you is a terrorist, there’s terrorist in American…(Columbine, Virginia Massacre, Bush), AND MCCAIN = BUSH…………………………………………………………………Come on people wake up or if you don’t pay attention to what’s going on really just look at it from a simplistic point of view…………..(When a Obama camp rallies together I see people of all races(white, black, mexican, arabic, asain, etc.)…..(When I see Rep/Mccain I see (middle/upper class white people and a few (if that) black/brown spots………THIS DOESN’T SCREAM OUT “A DETACHMENT FROM REALITY?????!!!!
YES, Obama all the way baby. For a better America, vote Obama. For a strong America , vote Obama.
Bebe,
You talking as if Palin is running for President, she’s not, and as soon as some more controversy, and dirt come out on her, you will be back,!!! Because you dont know her, neither does McCain……This woman is a total hypocrite, just imagine all the stuff we dont know!!! This is going to be an interesting 57 days!!
Obama-Biden 08
It amazes me of how shallow and ignorant people can be sometimes. Mccain only got this lady for Hilary voters to switch over, dont be fooled. That is the only reason why his numbers are increasing, because ignorant people are falling for it. And for those Obama voters who switched over to Mccain, if he was to get in and i strongly emphasize IF you all would regret it and would have wished you have brought in Obama. America dont be blinded like we were with Bush, we cannot do another term of this! Obama for president!!!
Shirley
Please elaborate how Sen. Obama will be “BAD” change.
Some people pay so much attention to these Republican ran polls!!!!! When they were conducting these polls they didnt call my house, nor did I take one on line, so who is actually taking them…..
And the Repubs were supposed to get a bump over the weekend, coming out of the convention, that’s really no surprise….especially with the nothing speech McCain and Palin made, not addressing any issues of America……
Shirley, how does a woman have good values when her underage daughter is in under her roof having sex with a boy, this woman is a total hypocrite!!!!!! She has no morals at all,!!!
Adrian,
McCain is only leading by 3 points, Obama was leading last week by 8 or 9 points after the DNC., so MCCain is really supposed to be way ahead especially after the hypocrite Palin pick!!!! This woman is a phony, and the real truth is coming out more and more!!! This woman has more skeletons in the closet!!!
Shelly speak for yourself. I am a Hillary supporter that is now going for Palin. Im not ignorant I just know who has more experience and actually has done something besides talk and talk. Obmam would ruin this country. Me and many other Hillary supporters are now going for Palin. Obama ruined any chance he had when he went against Hillary. McCain/Palin have my vote. WOMEN POWER
I don’t really trust the polls but I think who ever best manages the media cycle will win this election. McCain made a brilliant move by announcing palin right after Obamas impressive speech. This took the focus off of Obama and moved it to the GOP. The Dems are in a tough spot because they have to be carefull how they attach Palin. I would suggest sending Hillary in to do the dirty work for Obama so he can take the high ground. The question is, will she do it?
And just to add on Obama’s politics, the biggest thing i’ve been hearing is “HE’S GONNA RAISE TAXES, HE’S GONNA RAISE TAXES, (BECAUSE YOU HAVE NOTHING ELSE CREDIBILE TO SAY ABOUT HIM) HE HAS SAID TIME AND TIME AND TIME AND TIME AGAIN (MAKING $200,000 A YEAR OR MORE “YES!!!” TAX INCREASE) AND SERIOUSLY PEOPLE IF YOU MAKE $200,000 A YEAR OR EVEN CLOSE TO $100,000 A YEAR OR MORE IS A TAX INCREASE REALLY GONNA HURT YOUR FINANCIAL SECURITY??????? (DON’T ANSWER THAT BECAUSE THE ANSWER IS FLAT OUT “NO!!!!!!!!!!!”) AND AS FAR AS DEALING WITH TERRORIST/WAR (OR FOR ONCE I ACTUALLY AGREE WITH BUSH/MCCAIN ON CALLING IT A “SURGE” BECAUSE WHEN YOU AND A HUGH GROUP OF PEOPLE ALL HAVE GUNS AND THE OTHER SIDE ISN’T AS EQUIPT AS YOU, IT ISN’T A WAR) I WOULD RATHER SUPPORT THE INDIVIDUAL THAT’S WILLING TO SIT DOWN AND (TALK!!) COMMUNICATE WITH OTHER COUNTRIES…YOU MIGHT ACUTALLY LEARN SOMETHING……WAR EHH…I MEAN A “SURGE” IS NEVER GOOD…INNOCENT PEOPLE ARE KILLED EVERYDAY…….BUT OH WELL.
It is abysmally naive for people to switch to McCain because he picked a female for a running mate and Obama didn’t pick Hillary. Those two women are as far apart politcally as is the north and south poles are.If a voter is for Hillary then a voter should be for Obama, the positions of the two are just about the same.If you like Rush,Sean, and Ann Coulter then you will love Gov.Palin.I strongly suggest everone learn about the politics of the candidates so an informed choice can be made.
I have been a strong supporter of Obama from the beginning, like many others he received my vote in the primaries; however I think Obama made a mistake by picking Biden instead of Clinton for VP. Sure Biden is a good pick when it comes to foreign affairs but he doesn’t bring more to the table than Clinton (When it comes to winning purposes.) Clinton would have brought in the white women, and the majority of the Hispanic votes. Obama has 90-95% of the African American votes; Clinton and Obama together had an OK following amongst white men. That would have been an almost unstoppable ticket. How many would stand in line for hours just to hear Biden speak? (Not nearly as much as the people that would for Clinton) There is nothing exciting about Biden. In closing I feel that due to Obama’s bruised ego during the primary season he refused to pick Clinton. That decision could have cost the democrats the election this year. If people vote on the issues Obama would win hand down, however we all know many do not so therefore you do what ever it takes to win. This moment is bigger than Obama, and definitely bigger than me, so Obama will have a guaranteed vote from me.
Richard, hell of a post. Don’t forget about the executive experience argument. I’ll clarify this. No one even said that Palin was a PART-TIME Mayor.
She fired the veteran politican and hired a bunch of lobbyists to run the town. Left the town 27 million in the hole. She took on the good-ole-boys alright. She hired lobbyists (crooks) to replace them in the alaska state capitol. As far as commander in chief of the national guard. Once the guard recieves orders to go international, Her power is stripped. The criticism is that theres no way obama can give 95% of the working class a tax break. IF YOU ELIMINATE THE WAR. IT’S VERY EASY TO DO!! Why are you all mesmerized by Palin and McCain. Watch Bush’s speech in 2000 and Watch McCains speech. Last but not least, Im a Katrina victim, I was severely pissed off that GW Bush didnt come to NOLA. WHY? HE AND MCCAIN PARTIED ON MCCAINS B-DAY IN ARIZONA!!!!! I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR MCCAIN BECAUSE OF THAT REASON ONLY!!!
Im sick and tired of Obama thinkin he relates to me. He was riased by his WHITE grandma and mother. He went to rich white schools. He don’t know what its like to struggle and have nothin.Obama aint nothin but an uncle tom. I’d vote for that old white dude for I vote for that sellout.
(1)Unless they have been president, no one in the race has experience so people should stop using that as an excuse. Vote on the issues! We don’t know what any of the candidates are going to do until they are in the White House and even then it is going to take a few years to really see their progress.
(2) Palin is a strategic token by the GOP to lure Hillary voters – nothing more, nothing less. McCain just wants to win.
(3)Obama could not have picked Hillary as a VP because she wanted to be president too bad and she may have undermined his authority as president. Who’s to say he didn’t ask her and she declined? Besides, see it how it really is – Obama had to put a white man in the white house with him. Do you think the voters would be comfortable with a black man and a woman running this country? We still have a long way to go on race and gender relations and how minorities and women are viewed in this country. Let’s be real about it.
4)My prayer is that God will bless and protect whoever the president will be because we are in some difficult times. And that is more important than anything.
when it comes to a choice.. a black man or a white woman i would always choose the black man, not because he is black but because he is hope.. hope for the minorities who arent pushing themselves in the right direction..hope for those who feel that they will never see themselves up there where power is real and counts.. hope for those boys who will become men.. because he inspires blacks to do better and be the best.. not all of them will be on message, and for those who say he is not “black enough” where is your “blackness” coming from ?. its ridculous.!!i want americans to get off their backsides and vote this man in in november and not miss a beat.. blacks unfortunately are notorious for their apathy, most especially the black youth.. the black vote is democract anyway regardless of who owns the ticket… but for god’s sake america, we have had enough of your endless, pointless wars, and patrick n washington beating his patriotic chest to the star spangled banner already!!. show the rest of the world that there is intelligence out there and not everyone has a brain the size of a pea and head full of mush like palin has… obama 2008!!!!
ARE YOU MCCAIN/PALIN VOTERS SERIOUS!!!! ALL I NEEDED TO HEAR WAS THAT PALIN IS AGAINST ABORTION…EVEN IF YOU ARE RAPED, MOLESTED, OR A VICTIM OF INCEST! THAT IS ABSOLUTELY CRAZY. WHY IN THE H*LL WOULD YOU VOTE FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS THOSE TYPES OF DUMB ASS VIEWS!!! IT IS SIMPLY INSANE!! LORD HELP US!! I EVEN FOUND OUT TODAY THAT SHE ATTENDED 5 DIFFERENT COLLEGES IN 6 YEARS, AND SHE ONLY HAS A BACHELORS DEGREE!! HA….PLEASE VISIT HUFFINGTONPOST.COM FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THIS LUNATIC! HOPEFULLY YOU WILL WAKE THE FU*K UP!
