Obama’s Primetime Pitch to American Voters

Oct. 30, 2008 –Sen. Barack Obama is entering the final five days of what could be his journey to the White House, following one of the most expensive days in the history of political campaigns. Obama’s 30-minute prime-time infomercial aired on three networks and cable stations Wednesday night to the tune of $4 million.
Obama combined personal stories from regular Americans, added his biographical profile and outlined his plans for economy, the war in Iraq, health care and education. The beautifully produced ad didn’t cover new ground or highlight a break-out moment, but it served as comfort dialogue for his supporters, a plea to the undecided and condemnation of his opponent.
The infomercial ran simultaneously at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, NBC, MSNBC, Fox, BET, TV One and Univision, CNN; ABC aired its regularly scheduled programming.
While Obama spends millions on air time, Republican nominee John McCain has opted for all the free airtime he can muster. This week began with the Arizona senator’s appearance on Meet the Press, and he’s added a national network every day. He countered Obama’s network blitz on Wednesday night with an interview on CNN’s Larry King Live.
While McCain’s, running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, and surrogates continue to launch assaults at the Illinois senator about his tax plan and his patriotism, the Republican nominee told Larry King that race was definitely not a factor in this campaign.
“Look, there’s racism in America – we all know that – but I am totally convinced that 99.41 percent of Americans are going to make the decision based on who is best to lead this country,” he said.
The infomercial ended with a five-minute live speech from a campaign rally in Florida, where Obama, flanked by his running mate Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.), told the crowd and millions watching from home, “America, the time for change has come.”
I watched with my husband and daughter and wondered how all of this will be recorded in history. This presidential campaign has so many “firsts” that I think historians, political-watchers and pundits will be referencing, reflecting and examining these moments for years to come.
Both presidential candidates know the world is watching. Obama used all 30 minutes of his time to talk about the plight of the American people and how he plans to address the most pressing issues. He laid out his vision for the country without ever mentioning his rival.
Obama ended his infomercial asking folks to stand with him, work with him and vote for him. If they’ll do that for him, he told supporters gathered in Sunrise, Fla., “I promise you we will not just win Florida, we will win this election.”

Even though I’m not a fan of Howard Stern I saw this on Voddie Baucham website. It shows the unthinking mentality of some voters.
