Hip-Hop Artist Rally on the Election Eve

COLUMBUS (Nov. 4, 2008) –Today is Election Day, and regardless of the results, this will go down as one of the most significant days in American history. On Monday night hip-hop celeb’s held a “Get out the Vote” rally at Mayme Moore Park in Columbus, Ohio’s King Arts Complex. Rapper Jay-Z, Mary J. Blidge and P. Diddy Combs were on hand to spur voters to the polls.
The hip-hop push couldn’t come at a better time for the Obama campaign. A poll of one of the most critical swing states, done by the University of Cincinnati, is giving the first-term senator a 5.8-percent lead over Sen. John McCain, while Quinnipiac University’s poll gives him a 7-point advantage.
The recording artists came to town to pump up the volume for Obama. Even though recent polls give Obama the edge, his supporters continue to stress the importance of everyone going to the polls today. Those fears are warranted, according to the Quinnipiac Poll, since McCain has cut Obama’s lead by more than half over the past week and a half. But the surge apparently is coming too late.
Just after the rally Combs told BET backstage, “The youth vote came out and changed the way we’ll vote for the rest of history.”
Some in attendance were disappointed that the artists didn’t perform, but the crowd enjoyed their message just the same.
Tiffany McGill 19, a first time voter said she’s “excited” she’ll cast her first vote for Barack Obama.

SIGH, if only more american blacks thought like this… the black world would be a far better place than it is right now…
Let’s all raise the bar and move on. Asian, Latino, White, Black it’s time to raise the bar. Let’s show the world that we are Americans who are ready for change….To the Hip Hop community time to raise a standard.
