COLUMBUS (Nov. 5, 2008) – Throughout the night I received text messages, voice mails and e-mails from folks who couldn’t believe what was happening.
One text message from my niece in South Carolina was simple, “OMG” [Oh my God] and another from a niece in Michigan: “I wish toot could have seen this,” referring to Obama’s grandmother, who died Monday morning after suffering from cancer.
Cheers, tears and hugs are the only way I can describe the crowd’s reaction to the news that the freshman senator from Illinois had won Ohio.
Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman told me, “He’s done what Michael Dukakis, Al Gore, and John Kerry couldn’t do,” win Ohio. The win in Ohio truly set the mood for the rest of night. While waiting for returns from other battleground states, the crowd gathered in downtown Columbus had an air of confidence.
Widescreen televisions became the focus of the night and as state after state turned blue, the crowd erupted into cheers.
Columbus along with Cleveland, Toledo, Dayton and Youngstown delivered for Obama, and he faired well with earlier voters, young folks and African-Americans is the state. According to polling by CNN, Obama landed 63 percent of 18 -29 year-old voters, 97 percent of the Black vote, and 50 percent of the undecided cast their vote for the president elect.
Ohio is an important state in presidential politics and Tuesday night it was one of the early signs Obama was on the road the victory.

WE AS A NATION AND AS A WORLD MUST REALIZETHAT THERE ARE TWO BATTLES THAT ARE BEING FOUGHT..”MAN AGAINST MAN”..AND.. “GOD AGAINST SATAN”..BOTH ARE INTERWOVEN. RELIGION AND ..”THE RECOGNITION OF IT’S IMPORTANCE”..WILL DECIDE WORLD PEACE!!. IF MR OBAMA CAN CONNECT WITH ALL NATIONS NOT ONLY ON A..” POLITICAL LEVEL”.BUT ALSO ON A..” SPIRITUAL LEVEL”..PLUS TREAT ALL AS EQUALS THEN WE HAVE A ..”CHANCE AND A CHANGE’..IN HOW THE WORLD WILL VIEW AND WORK NOT ONLY WITH ..’AMERICA”. BUT WITH EACH OTHER AS A COMMUNITY
I WONDER WHAT THE HARD-CORE CONSERVATIVES THAT BLOGGED ON THIS SITE HAS TO SAY NOW!!!!!!!!! THEY CAN’T SAY SQUAT!!!!!!!!!!! OBAMA-BIDEN BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!
God is Good and he showed out last night with this election It is so much tension in this office you can cut it with a knife.
There is 5 blacks female in this office its about 3 that was for aobama the others didnt vote because one of religion purposes because the other is dating a man of a different race and he didnt want her to vote.
I am so excited about this election I cried all nite now I can see and feel things getting better.
God Thank you .
I dont depend on man I depend on him.
Lord knows Obama gotten alot of work to do as long as he got God on his side he going to be the best president with a story.
As a McCain supporter I congratulate President elect Obama on his victory. My prayers are with him as he leads this great country. It would be a lie if I said I didn’t feel all warm and fuzzy during his acceptance speech. I think his being president will open up healing for race relations in our country. And to my conservative friends, let’s take this opportunity to get back to our core values of less government and more freedom as the party of Abraham Lincoln & Martin Luther King.
THANK-U GOD FOR THE BLESSING OF A MAN LIKE OBAMA!
We have reached a milestone in this country that noone thought was fathomable. THis is the only country in the world where electing a American who happens to be Black is even possible. THis shows us, that every boy or girl whether black, brown, yellow, white, gay/straight, that if they dream it, and work hard, they can achieve anything in this world. I am so proud to be an American, this is definately the land of opportuntiy. This is not to say that we don’t have more trials and tribulations as a country and that racism no longer exists, because it does it s woven into the fabric of our society and the laws this land was built on, but we have made great strides today. I wonder what our ancestors and those great black leaders who have paved the way for thi s to happen are thinking at this very pivotal moment in history.
This is a victory for the world im in tears of joy!!!!!
I remember if a black person said they wanted to be President of the United States of America they would be looked at as been CRAZY!! Well not anymore, change has come and I am just overwhelmed and happy that I am alive to witness this historic moment…
