The First Black President: Barack Obama

COLUMBUS (Nov. 5, 2008) – Throughout the night I received text messages, voice mails and e-mails from folks who couldn’t believe what was happening.
One text message from my niece in South Carolina was simple, “OMG” [Oh my God] and another from a niece in Michigan: “I wish toot could have seen this,” referring to Obama’s grandmother, who died Monday morning after suffering from cancer.
Cheers, tears and hugs are the only way I can describe the crowd’s reaction to the news that the freshman senator from Illinois had won Ohio.
Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman told me, “He’s done what Michael Dukakis, Al Gore, and John Kerry couldn’t do,” win Ohio. The win in Ohio truly set the mood for the rest of night. While waiting for returns from other battleground states, the crowd gathered in downtown Columbus had an air of confidence.
Widescreen televisions became the focus of the night and as state after state turned blue, the crowd erupted into cheers.
Columbus along with Cleveland, Toledo, Dayton and Youngstown delivered for Obama, and he faired well with earlier voters, young folks and African-Americans is the state. According to polling by CNN, Obama landed 63 percent of 18 -29 year-old voters, 97 percent of the Black vote, and 50 percent of the undecided cast their vote for the president elect.
Ohio is an important state in presidential politics and Tuesday night it was one of the early signs Obama was on the road the victory.
Last night was a joyous occasion. I could not believe what I was hearing or what my eyes were seeing. My knees got weak and tears started to flow. My son turned 18 this year and we voted together about 2 weeks ago. I am so glad that he was apart of this history-making process. May God bless Obama and lead him in the right direction while leading our great country.

this is part of the transistional process thats needed in order
to heal ourselves as a nation..look how the world responded to
last nights events. a massive collective effort from everyone
and without one catalyst be it the young vote ,the black or white vote
etc..none of this wouldve been possible.my grandfather is smiling from the other side now.i feel his presence as im sure you must’ve felt the same
from those you lost along the way..
it feels good doesnt it. its a victory for America..

i was so impressed to notice for the first time in black history a black man was crowned president of the united states of america. i was proud to be black and that goes to show u no matter what race we are, so lets continue that legacy. saint lucians love u president Barack Obama and will always do.

On this day I’m proud to be A BLACK AMERICAN female because I have live to see A BLACK AMERICAN PRESIDENT FOR ALL PEOPLE no matter what color the skin is. This is AMERICA and I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN PROUD OF MY SKIN COLOR.

We need to allow this to prove to us that America, wants to make a change for the better between race relations. Remember my black people, we alone did not make Obama president, he needed all races to come together. And that is what happened, white, black, hispanic, asian, brothers and sisters came together and voted for the best canidate. Not because he was black, but because he is the best choice. Lets bond with our brothers and sisters of America who voted for Obama. And not just make this win about our race, but about all of us Americans. Bravo!

well look at this years ago the white man went to afrcia an brought back slave. Now we have a president whos father is from africa and his mother is white . how amazeing this is to me .the slaves they brought back to work for the white man now is the the president of usa. oh how things are truned around. i know those same white men would not believed this could happen. there slaves is now the president…….

But lets not get it twisted Obama really know nothing of his african father
he was a dead beat dad like many other fathers, he was raised wonderfully
by a white mother and grand parents, he also was molded in the african
american community ,marrying a beautiful women, and learning from the
very tough chicago politics , chicago has the biggest black community in
the united states , the who’s who of black leadership reside here.
It’s not about the color of his skin, but monkey’s like Olounwa who is
black and don’t even live in america, but likes criticizing the african american
community is a bit much, the monkey is claiming that Obama african father
kenya heritage is what got him into the white house what a joke…
It is more than a joyful feeling in Jamaica west Indies , we Love Barack Obama and his family and we are praying for him . The Lord God almighty will walk the path with him.
