Obama wants 2 million jobs by 2110

November 24th, 2008

By Pamela Gentry, Senior Political Producer

Nov. 24, 2008 – Today, when President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden announce their hand-picked economic team, the next hurdle will be explaining how they will accomplish Obama’s plan to add 2.5 million jobs to the workforce.

Where will these jobs come from and how will he do it?  Obama is proposing a two-year initiative to put Americans to work here at home rebuilding the nation’s crumbling infrastructure.  It’s work that needs to be done, and his plan isn’t a “new” idea, but it could be the largest proposed spending program since President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal.  (Estimates have been as high as $500 billion) But can a stimulus of this nature work in today’s employment environment?

That will be one of the first challenges facing his newly appointed economic team.

During the president-elect’s weekly radio address, he said he’s already instructed the  team that jobs are a priority. “We’ll put people back to work rebuilding our crumbling roads and bridges, modernizing schools that are failing our children, and building wind farms and solar panels; fuel-efficient cars and the alternative energy technologies that can free us from our dependence on foreign oil and keep our economy competitive in the years ahead.”

The folks Obama plans to announce later today, along with Timothy Geithner, who’s been tapped to fill the top job as Treasury secretary, will be charged with making all this happen.  But two important questions will remain once the team is put in place:  How much will it cost to create 2.5 million new jobs and how will the task be accomplished?
I doubt either question will have easy answers.

Do you think jobs should be the first issue on the new president’s agenda?

You are correct, the republicans aside from John McCain are having a difficult time accepting defeat. They are plotting for a victory in 2012.Problem with that is that they don’t realise that CHANGE is what the people wanted and they are stuck in thier old ways. Consevatism by definition is too resist change and keep thing as is,which has and will lead to another defeat.

To Republicans the US government is a joke; a game to be won. But to regular American people this is our way of life. They claimed “Country First” but really it’s “Republican ego first”. Well get over it you lost and now America is on the mend with or without your help. Instead of Republicans strategizing about how to win the next election how about roll up your sleeves and help clean up the mess our country is in. Does it matter who is in office if the country is not bleeding any more???

seschris said on November 24th, 2008

The way the GOP focused on name calling and slandering during this election proved positive that they have no respect for the American people and were not putting Country First. Constantly distracting discussion from the issues that concern us, creating scandal where there was none instead of telling us exactly what they were going to do put the country back on it’s feet is exactly why the republicans lost. That ‘entitlement” shyt doesn’t work anymore. IT’S NOT A GAME PEOPLE!!!! WAKE UP!!! THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN AND YOUR STILL NOT LISTENING!!! POLITICS AS USUAL WILL RUIN AMERICA IF REPUBLICANS HAD THEIR WAY. REPUBLICAN MOTTO IS: WIN AT ALL COST AND LEAVE THE COUNTRY IN SHREDS. Second guessing and Monday morning quarterbacking everything that President elect Obama utters is not going to help either. I bet this will be the most “watched’ president in history! Just waiting for problems while the Bush family had 12 years to phuck up!

does it mean to say 2010?? I mean, 100 years is a long time…

olounwa said on November 24th, 2008

despite everything that was so obvious , the republicans still believed that , at the last minute they would some how , take victory from the jaws of defeat.. what a load of old cobblers!! sarah palin actually believed she would be the next vice president and potential president !!. the best thing that mccain did to secure without a doubt obama’s victory, was bring that terrible woman onboard.! terrifying the more moderate elements in his own party , let alone everyone else.. only the hard core, redneck, illiterates and oil magnates where impressed…

This article said nothing about Republicans, yet all of the responses talk about Republicans. Maybe you guys should start working on helping Obama do what he needs to do instead of Republican bashing. The election is over and Democrats pretty much control the country now. Grow up and start coming up with ideas to help Obama create the 2.5 million jobs. I thought that headline should have said 2010 also… that would be great.

seschris said on November 24th, 2008

Wow,

Just like a sore looser. If you paid attention you would know that blogs often change direction depending upon what the bloggers want to discuss. Anyway, you need to take your own advice…Grow up and realize that your country is now being run by a Democratic president who will work as hard for you Republicans as he will for Democrats. Very different concept than the way Republicans did it, huh. Maybe you sould start working on helping Obama do what he needs to do, put Country First, you know.

You beat me to the punch,I was just going too post to Wow that he/she comes across as a disguntled loser.I’m sure Pesident-elect Obama will get ample advice,so there is no need in filling up the White House mail room with redundant messages.

Mr. President BARACK OBAMA set your plan in place and make it happen. Let’s keep him lifted up in our prayers because he does have a plan, and he does have an education, and he does have compassion, and he is a man of God who knows what the American people need to try to get back on the right track. Pray for his staff that they are willing to commit to the cause of CHANGE! BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America!! Hallelujahto the Precious Lamb of God!

I think that it will be great that we are working to get more job but what about getting them rolling along right now because (Bills) dont wait that long and with the economy the way it is their probly wont beto many jobs left for the wallstreet marketers and others that associate with tat sort of profession we need change faster than that not pushing anything but Americas depending on jobs to form a little faster than that. People are relying on this so called bail-out but ZI think its a bad decision just to be thinking about it people in a state of panic because of major losses or major distress but above it all is I think (America) can pull back and make a difference in our everyday life.

I’m guessing I’m the only conservatism voice on this blog.
What’s up my people!
First, let’s not look at conservatism in a simplistic way. “Political” conservatism is not resisting changing. Grow with me.
Conservatism principles are:
• Traditional family values and the sanctity of marriage
• A small, non-invasive government
• A strong national defense
• A commitment to faith and religion
• The right to life for every human being
And that’s why I get down with republicans for the most part. But thanks to Bush 43 the Republican/ Conservatism brand has been tarnished.

I need Obama to do well but also I need him to answer questions. He’s still giving campaign speeches. I realize he benefits from a bad economy right now. I just hope he’s realistic with tax increases on business and taxpayers. Because for him to do what he wants to do, it will have to be done by “small” business making over $250,000 years and these are the businesses he wants raise taxes on.

So it’s time to come clean. Just tell us whats really good. Because all I hear is campaign talk.

One last thing, why are you’ll still crying about the racial motivates of the “white man”. Obama is president. He won because of the white vote. Enjoy. Stop tripping. He can’t be held down the “Good Old Boys”.

jfffnn said on November 25th, 2008

Alex
Just a few question about you brand of “c onsevati sm” ;,I always though it was just conservative.Well anyway,
1) Whose traditional family values and sanctity of marriage ?
2 ) A small non invasive government ? That is out of the question when many in government are trying too tell women what they can’t do with thier bodies and saying who can marry who.
3) a strong national defense.I think everybody wants that.
4) a commitment to faith and religion ? Whose faith and whose religion ?
Just a few question I would like you too clear up because there seems too be some contradictions in your statements

jfffnn said on November 25th, 2008

By the way Alex
Do you realise that the bit about ” The right to life for every human being ” scared the hell out of many women,it is code speak for oulawing abortion.Taditional family values is a matter of conjecture - whose family values ?

you have a good point there alex, all the conspiracy theorists are going to run out of material , not to mention the comedians too.!! obama is difficult to
make fun of. however the rot has is setting in, as bad habits run deep… obama is now the “african spear chucker “according to some bright sparks on bet..and they arent the usual suspects putting that down.. lol!! racism has many heads its not as simple as they say it is… never was.

olounwa said on November 27th, 2008

by the way for those of you on here who called obama’s father an “abseentee sperm donor”, perhaps you would care to take a look at some pictures of obama and his sperm donor on bet or go to obama for america to check on there.?as i said, racism doesnt have to be from the obvious, i wonder if his father would have been a sperm donor if he wasnt an african?. lol!! hypocracy is not just a whitemans disease… .

Justin said on November 27th, 2008

Olounwa,

Taking pictures of a man with his biological son is NOT the same as being there to teach him to ride his bike, tie a tie, fight back on the school yard, teach him to drive, coach him on his first date, help with homework, respect his mother, BE HIS ROLE MODEL, etc… bottom line President elect Obama’s father was NOT there. He openly admits without being disrespectful of his Kenyan father that his American mother and mostly grandmother raised him. This happens in all races not just African American. Nevertheless, he is an African American who will become a phenomenal leader of the WORLD and who will serve ALL races well.

olounwa said on November 27th, 2008

well, justin stop calling obama’s father a sperm donor!!. ridiculous!!. if not for his fathers imput, black america would have nothing to be weeping about…

olounwa said on November 28th, 2008

to all the fools calling obama’s father a sperm donor..not only are you desrespectful but you are also ungrateful.. and who are any of you anyway?. if not for obama senior none of you would have mouth to talk… and to the “chief cook and bottle washer “of bad mouthing others and complaining when its thrown back at him should take note.. obama respects who he is in all its diversity … it has taken him to the presidency.. you might like to take a leaf out of his book..

olounwa,

You have too much nerve! Telling us to stop calling Obama’s father a sperm donor when that’s all he contributed to the man that Obama is today and yet you continue to DISRESPECT black American’s at every turn. What a big hypocrite you are! You yourself need to take a leaf out of his book and learn to embrace diversity and not to create further discord with all your constant black America bashing. You are really a piece of work! You can’t have it both ways. Obama’s parentage proves that NOT all African men take parenting seriously (contrary to one of your prior rantings).

Women should/will decide if and when they will go the full term of gestation, not men.A Women is her own person, not the property of any man.
I will put it to you this way, what one woman won’t do another one will;it’s a matter of finding the woman that will.
THE BASIC ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION IS NO.

rednblack said on December 2nd, 2008

Jifffnn: Thanks for responding and for your truthfulness.

During Med School I performed several abortions as part of my training……I was never the same after those experiences. I will be forever haunted by the little arms and legs I dismembered.

I hope one day you will change your mind.

A person changing their is always possible. However I am a man, gestation ain’t in the cards for me.My basic point is that it’s her body therefore her choice.I have no medical training so I will not be performing that procedure

Conservatism calls for less government spending while Obama is proposing billions of new government spending .

Obama ’s plans to create all those jobs are premised on government jobs instead of the free market.

As a conservative myself, I believe in the free market instead of government taking taxpayers’ dollars for bailouts and welfare.

I believe in order to incorporate new jobs we must first be prepared to meet those new jobs. We must begin by having great leaders of all times, great benefits, incentives, and first but not least WE must all be compensated by our worth and professionalism. JOBS yes, BETTER pay YES, that should keep us all prideful to be AMERICANS and at HOME! I look forward to seeing the great plans unveil in the near future. MY prayer is that GOD’s blessing be with our President Barack H. Obama.
