NAACP wants More Specifics for Black America

July 16, 2009 – President Obama will flex his political muscle and exhibit his fundraising capacity Thursday when he travels to New Jersey to campaigns for Gov. Jon Corzine  (D-N.J.) and attends a fundraiser in New York City.

Both events are the bookends for the president’s keynote address at NAACP convention where the civil-rights organization is celebrating its 100th anniversary.   NAACP officials say they are looking forward to hearing “specific” on issues important to Black American from the president.  obama_stem-cell_30909

Corzine, 62, a former U.S. Senator and now first-term governor is facing Republican challenger Christopher Christie,  46,  the state’s former U.S. attorney in November.  Obama could be a boost for Corzine who’s had a disapproval rating of 56 percent in a Quinnipiac survey last month.  This could be an early test of the “Obama factor” for 2010.

But anticipation is really underway for those attending the NAACP conference where folks will be waiting to hear the president on Black unemployment rates, education for the poor, and help for those home owners facing foreclosure.  It’s all about the economy and some NAACP officials say the president hasn’t made an effort to address Black concerns explicitly and has only spoke in broad general terms.

So he can expect the those gathered in the ballroom at the New York Hilton Hotel are looking for him to deliver specifics and not generalities on the issues they care about.  They understand the first African-American president is doing a delicate juggling act – they just want to make sure issues disproportionally impacting African-Americans are one of the balls in the air.

I am tired of hearing about black people.
Whether we are Black,White,Latino Green, Orange, Asian; whatever . We are one and that conditioned minded norm needs to CHANGE. Until that happens Black, White,Latino, Green, Orange, Asian; whatever will be just like separate entities.

Contemporary gospel was considered white peoples gospel. All it took was one person or group to make it every nationalities music.

I love everyone. That is what we are, Love. If we continue not love every human being as we love ourselves we will never be free.

There are folk who just do not want change. That’s what came to my mind with the statement that was mentioned above.

I think the NAACP needs to reach out and start a “Love campaign”.

the President is speaking out and taking action on all these things. Why is it necessary for him to speak only to Blacks when we know that we will benefit from the issues that he is taking on. Why do we continue to insist that President Obama be a “Black president” over “President”. It took more than us to elect him and I certainly feel that if he acts as if he only interested in the problems of the country as it relates to Black Americans, he will never get anything done. We have come to see that it appears that the Republicans speak only to racist people in their party with the upraising of Sarah Palin and none of us like that. Why then would we want any President to limit his/her works to one portion of the citizens instead of what will be good for all portions of the nation. I’m so tired of hearing that when he speaks and tries to push legislation for the poor, the jobless and many other things, we feel that this doesn’t include us. Remember, he is the President of the United States and to be elected a second term he must remain the President of the United States, not just a special interest President.

President Obama is the president of the US not the president of black people. His work will benefit all not just a selected few. Therefore, instead of demanding President Obama do more for blacks we should support his efforts for all Americans.
