Oct. 29, 2009 – Reps.  Maxine Waters and Laura Richardson could be in hot water, The House Ethics Committee voted unanimously Thursday to look into ethics violations by the two African-American Southern California congresswomen.

The committee released a statement saying it was looking into whether Richardson had failed to report real estate liabilities and income on her financial disclosure forms.  They also have plans to investigate if she received a “gift or preferential treatment” from Washington Mutual; the same bank that sold her home at auction following foreclosure action, but later returned the house to congresswoman.

According to The Associated Press a four-member committee will investigate Waters’ activities surrounding the National Bankers Association and OneUnited Bank.  Water’s husband, Sidney Williams, owned stock in the bank and served on the board of directors until early in 2008.

The Massachusetts-based OneUnited Bank dealing with Waters is under scrutiny because the bank received $12 million in bailout funds three months after a meeting was arranged by Waters with members of the banking committee , other minority-owned financial institutions and U.S. Treasury Department representatives.

why is it when black politicians get caught up in corruption charges its whites trying to bring black leadership down. but when whites get brought up on corruption charges you never hear any white people whining about it? i guess some black people feel that so called “black leaders” don’t have to follow the rules. well i hope that a democrat congress holds these to women to the rules and if guilty lets call a spade a spade! for a change!

Quite a few white politicians have been caught betraying the trust of their supporters. The conservatives have their flaws but they also have a pretty good track record when it comes to discarding the trash. Could you imagine if any Republican behaved in the same deplorable manner as Sodomite candidate Barney Frank? He/she/it would be swiftly condemned and thrown into the political trash heap (if lucky enough to escape prison).

What happened to the innocent until proven guilty. We are suppose to hear evidence. We need to stop taking the ball and run with it and we don’t know what direction we should go.

They are only investigating they have not found her gilty yet. Juging by what i just read i’d say Mr. Waters met with not just banks but representetives of the us. treasury. i looks like they were strategizing ways to save not just the banks but the money that everyday little poeple put in those banks. since the big banks with account of the rich and middle class were having money directed their way by way of a bell-out, they could have gotten together to see if a smaller bank can get some of that. beside, isn’t this life all about who you know anyway?

What the article failed to mention is the requirment to disclose your actions. Ms. Waters disclosed her possible connection to the bank to Rep. Frank. I am certain, at least in this matter, the truth will win. Rep. Frank released a press statement to this effect some time ago. Ensuring that minority owned banks have the same access to bailout funds as did the larger nonminority owned banks is admirable. This hatred of all politicians is sickening. Most of those complaining would never step up to the plate to lead but will back seat drive all the time. The job is hard enough without all of the flack you get from “your own people”.

Ya’ know, this kind of reporting/journalism just gets my ire up. I understand that these are serious allegations. However, my attention went immediately to the fact that foreclosure figured into the mix. To see the name of a powerful, giving, public servant’s name mentioned in the same line as this real estate pandemic that is wrecking so many lives, for me, is the true tragedy! Tell me everything — the human side of the story — or tell me nothing at all. It is truly getting to the point where journalism has become as tainted as a bad feature storyline — all guts, no glory.

Why is the ethics commitee investigating her for trying to assist an African American establishment. Did they investigate any of the white Senators for throwing some of the good ole boys name in the hat for government bailouts. Funny when it is primarily white owned establishments their to big to fail, when it primarily minority owned they are like how dare they have the audacity to as kfor our help, we’d better look into how they got help. Who are these people can you watch who you vote for next time………

Your website is awesome! It motivates me to investigate and consider various viewpoints. In my business, watching the news and “feeling” the flow of politics is important. If Rep. Maxine Waters is in “hot water” because she is “indirectly” connected to banks that improperly used bailout money then all banks that received bailout money via TARP are in hot water too. The purpose of the TARP program is to stimulate the economy by encouraging banks to lend funds. Instead banking institutions used the funds to acquire assets. This was improper use and can even be called “immoral” but it was not a crime. I don’t know what should be done to repay the consumer but Rep. Waters should not pay the price by losing her credibility.

Whats this black people wanting to hold black leaders accountable. Maybe there is hope for us as a people. Some will always be a slave to their color.

Ms A Said on

Nepotism is not for people of color! Now that I have your attention. Representative Waters is a woman of strong moral character (at least that is what I see). Of course the envious want to start a smear campaign. She was the voice that brought to everyone’s attention the CIA/FBI plot to poison the African-American/Black/Negro communities and neighborhoods. If there has been any wrong doing on the part of either of these women, let the punishment be as it would for a pasty face (pardon me) a caucasian american. Write them a letter of censure and let them continue their work.
