EUGENE, OREGON – Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell have officially been put on notice.

Tyson Gay is the man to beat heading into the 100 meters at Beijing.

Aided by some serious wind, Gay ran a 9.68 in the finals of the 100 at the U.S. Olympic Trials, setting a record for the fastest time under any conditions.

The previous record was held by Obadele Thompson of Barbados, who ran a 9.69 (>+5) in 1996.

Gay’s 9.68 is not a new world record because it was run with the help of a wind blowing at 4.1 meters per second.

Anything above 2.0 is not allowed.

Wind or no wind, Gay has sent a message to the rest of the track world with his performance here in Eugene.

IF NO WIND ABOVE 2.0 IS ALLOWED, WHY DID THEY CONSIDER IT A NEW RECORD? HE PROBABLY WOULDN’T HAVE BROKEN IT W/O THE WIND, RIGHT?

My hat is off to Mr. Tyson Gay. I don’t think the African American Community as well as the white community appreciates how much time, decipline and hard work and talent it takes to be able to run this fast. Please be drug free. God Bless you and the best of luck in the finals of the Games.

If only a higher percent of our population were “truly” physically (therefore mentally) fit then the level of appreciation for these wonderguys and wonderwomen would be where it should be!!! Thats phenomenal speed, to say the least people…. Peace and blessings to all the U.S. teams, get some gold baby!!!

He run the time but he will not run it again because of the wind. He only run these incredible time when he is aided by the wind.Look before he ran 9.74 and enver did it legally. Now he run 9.68, can he do it legally. Maybe but not right now for sure.Plus at the olympics it’s way different. Anything Can happena dn he won be running 9.7 goin through the rounds. He might even get eliminated if he get’s tired, who knows but let’s just watch and see.Jamaican sprinters never sleep on anyone

How fast Mr Gay runs tells you two things about him, when you was a child did you ever notice that the kids that did not fight the bullys ran, and as they got older they got faster and joined the track team. The other one is how I got fast , running from the ass whippings from mom and dad.I would run circles around the room, chairs, jump over and the sofa.
