Lopez Lomong

The Opening Ceremonies for the 2008 Summer Olympics is currently underway in Beijing, kicking off what should be an excited two weeks of competition.

If you are crazy enough to sit through the nearly five-hour ceremony, you are certain to hear the story about Lopez Lomong.

Lomong is one of the thousands who were displaced from Sudan and was placed with a foster family in the United States.

The former Northern Arizona University track star will be carrying the flag for the U.S. during the ceremonies.

If you think the United States selected Lomong because of his remarkable story about coming to the U.S., don’t be so sure.

Lomong has been very outspoken about the issues back in Sudan is a member of Team Darfur, a group of athletes who are opposed to China’s support for Sudan.

Talk about a nice “F-You” to the Chinese government.
