LPGA To Require Players To Speak English

If you see dictionaries popping up at your local driving range, you can thank the Ladies Professional Golf Association.

According to a report, the LPGA will require its members to learn and speak English and will suspend their membership if they don’t comply according to Golfweek.

Can we say assimilation?

Players were told by LPGA commissioner Carolyn Bivens that by the end of 2009, all players who have been on the tour for two years must pass an oral evaluation of their English skills or face a membership suspension. A written explanation of the policy was not given to players, according to the report.

It looks like not enough of the tour members can’t say assimilation because the LPGA is looking to crack down on the influx of South Korean players.

Let’s just cut to the chase.

If there were just one or two non-Americans on tour, this wouldn’t be an issue.

But with last names like Pak, Park, and Lee at the top of the leader boards, the LPGA is striking back.

What the LPGA fails to realize that without the influx of foreign players, they wouldn’t have much of a professional tour.

I gurantee you the average golf fan has heard of Annika Sorenstam and Se Ri Pak before Paula Creamer.

The 72 people that actually pay attention to the LPGA aren’t going to stop watching because the players aren’t giving their acceptance speeches following tournaments in English.

Hmm, that is a direct contradiction to the rules inherent in the US. English is not our official language; as far as I know, our country has no official language at all. Though the bulk of us DO speak English, there are a selection of communities that don’t in our country. Thus, why is it necessary to have a mandatory English policy within the LPGA?

This appears to be unlawful employment discrimination, there is no business necessity for speaking english as long as you can say FORE!

In the USA it has come to the point that people who are from here on most jobs must be able to speak other languages or they will not get the job. I also find it nerve bothering to be around someone who speaks a different language and does not have some one to explain what they are saying, not to mention that the interpreter would they really tell me what that person really said, because they could be talking about me or someone I know in a harmful way. If they are saying something nice I would like to be able to receive the compliment by hearing it myself. What is the problem just learn the english language you will be happy you did. It has come to the point that I refuse to get my nails and feet done, because of the other languages, when I know they speak english. They only speak their language if they do not want anyone to understand or hear what they are saying. If the native’s of the USA has to be put on the spot to achieve their goals then what makes the foreigners who insist on coming to the USA think that they should get some special treatment. Get on board and take the ENGLISH LANGUAGE. This comment is sent out with nothing but love and concern and I beg the difference with Stella that this is not discrimination only looking for respect .
So don’t make this more then what it really is LEARN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE.

I really believe that every here in the USA needs to be able to speak English
not only in golf but in every other area of every day living in the USA. I don’t know what has happen to this country. We open up the flood gates to people who are here illegally and people who were hear and ore citzens have to fight
tooth and nail just to get basic services. I don’t understand I was at the health department to get medical care and my daughter who no longer aualify for medicare was told she could not be seen and in the very next station I watch a wonen who was not a citizen who not only got to see the droctor but was given the royal treament they took her by the hand and walk her every where she needed to go in the cilinc. SHE COULD NOT EVERY SPEAK ENGLISH!!!!!! is there something wrong with picture. I ASk america what has happen to this country WHY HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN THE PEOPLE WHO CITIZENS. I really belive that every one needs to be able to speak english.
