After spending the summer eating Vaseline, smoking weed and getting involved in a hit-and-run car accident (and broadcasting it to the world), Stephon Marbury will reportedly sit out the entire 2009-10 NBA season.

“I’m resting, doing what Michael Jordan did, enjoy life, do things I haven’t done in 16 years, keep building my empire,” Marbury told the New York Post. “I wasn’t going to Boston for that money. It was a prudent business decision to take off this year.”

There are two things wrong with that quote – - the fact he tried to compare himself to Michael Jordan and he mentioned his so-called “empire.”

Now that he has free time, Marbury plans on attending the Knicks home opener on Oct. 31, but took a dig at the organization and head coach Mike D’Antoni.

“I’m just talking as a fan and New Yorker who grew up loving the Knicks: Why would I give you my money to watch them?” said Marbury. “This is atrocious. Guys coming down court, just raising up 3-pointers from anywhere. The coaching is horrible. What kind of coaching is this?”

Here’s hoping Marbury gets a warm New York welcome from the fans at Madison Square Garden.
