Michael Vick is officially a free agent.

The Atlanta Falcons released the quarterback today after they were unable to trade him.

What a shock, Atlanta was unable to trade a mediocre suspended quarterback who has spent the last two years in jail.

Teams can sign Vick even though he’s still serving a suspension from NFL commish Roger Goodell.

In case you wanted to know why Vick’s home is worth $3.2 million, it has eight bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a four-car garage and features a pool room, movie theater and indoor golf simulator.

Whenever quarterback Michael Vick gets out of jail, he won’t be playing with the Atlanta Falcons.

General manager Thomas Dimitroff acknowledged the fact that the Falcons are shopping the rights to Vick with other NFL clubs.

Vick is scheduled for a July 20 release, which means he could end up back in the NFL during the Fall.

Before you Ron Mexico fans get your hopes up, Vick has a contract that runs to 2013 and calls for him to receive a base salary of $9 million and a bonus of $6.43 million in 2009. The remainder of the contract is worth $45.11 million, with another possible $3 million in Pro Bowl bonuses.

Find me a team (besides Al Davis in Oakland) that would take on that contract?

And don’t forget, Vick is currently serving an NFL suspension.

If Adam “Pacman” Jones landed on his feet with the Cowboys, it’s almost certain Vick will be holding a clipboard on the sideline come September.

The Virginian-Pilot is reporting that jailed quarterback Michael Vick will enter a guilty plea next week in Virginia to state dogfighting charges.

Vick, currently in jail on federal charges, will appear in court on Oct. 30 via video conference.

No surprise here that Vick is coping a guilty plea when he has already been convicted by a federal jury.

It will be interesting to see if he will be forced to serve additional jail time or if he will be released from prison on July 20, 2009.

Just in time for training camp for the 2009 season …

According to at least one NFL owner, jailed quarterback Michael Vick deserves a second chance at the NFL.

Just don’t expect him to come back with the Atlanta Falcons.

Falcons general manager Arthur Blank said he would support an effort for Vick to return to the NFL.

“He’s written me and I’ve answered him,” Blank said. “I certainly wish Michael well in the future. I believe in second chances. I believe in third chances. That doesn’t mean I believe in forever chances. But I do believe he’s capable of redemption and learning from his mistakes.” 

Blank might believe in second and third chances, just not for his franchise:

“I’ll say this to you when I answer the question as fully as I can,” Blank said. “From my perspective, people use the expression ‘we’ve turned the page,’ and we’ve turned the page, turned the chapter and closed the book. We’ve moved on and we have a franchise quarterback.” 

That franchise quarterback Blank is referring to is rookie Matt Ryan, who has to be an early favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.

Milloy was arrested early Monday morning in an Atlanta suburb and was charged with driving under the influence and was charged with speeding.

Hours earlier, Milloy and the Falcons suffered a 24-9 loss at the hands of Tampa Bay on the road.

The 34-year-old veteran was released from prison after posting bond Monday morning.

Just what the Falcons franchise doesn’t need at this point; a player getting in trouble with the law.

Considering Jamaal Fudge (who?) is the backup for Milloy, Falcons fans won’t have to worry about their four-time Pro-Bowl safety being benched for next week’s game.
