After spending the summer eating Vaseline, smoking weed and getting involved in a hit-and-run car accident (and broadcasting it to the world), Stephon Marbury will reportedly sit out the entire 2009-10 NBA season.

“I’m resting, doing what Michael Jordan did, enjoy life, do things I haven’t done in 16 years, keep building my empire,” Marbury told the New York Post. “I wasn’t going to Boston for that money. It was a prudent business decision to take off this year.”

There are two things wrong with that quote – - the fact he tried to compare himself to Michael Jordan and he mentioned his so-called “empire.”

What empire would this be, Steph? Your Ustream followers?

Now that he has free time, Marbury plans on attending the Knicks home opener on Oct. 31, but took a dig at the organization and head coach Mike D’Antoni.

“I’m just talking as a fan and New Yorker who grew up loving the Knicks: Why would I give you my money to watch them?” said Marbury. “This is atrocious. Guys coming down court, just raising up 3-pointers from anywhere. The coaching is horrible. What kind of coaching is this?”

Here’s hoping Marbury gets a warm New York welcome from the fans at Madison Square Garden.

NBA players with shoe endorsements is nothing new. But NBA players starting their own shoe line is a new trend and New York Knicks forward Al Harrington is the latest to launch a brand. Harrington chatted with BET.com about his new shoe line, Protége and shares his thoughts on who had the more impressive performance in Madison Square Garden in February between Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.

How did you come up with the concept of Protégé?

What inspired me to make Protégé was I always wanted to have a shoe. Throughout my career, I was dealing with the shoe companies that I was with but I finally got to a point where I was able to make one. I wanted to make one that was affordable because I remember growing up and how tough it was to afford $100-$200 pair of shoes. I wanted to make a shoe that had creditability and that kids would feel comfortable wearing. I was able to accomplish that with Protégé, making it $34.99. It’s on NBA players and celebrities so that gives me creditability.

What other NBA players are currently wearing the shoes?

Right now, it’s me, Stephen Jackson and Ron Artest. Stephen Jackson is like a brother to me so, as soon as I mentioned to him what it was about, he was on board. Ron Artest was the same way. He has always been a good friend of mine since high school. They could both relate to it, growing up and not having a lot.

Growing up, what kind of sneaker guy were you? Nike, Reebok, etc?

I was with whatever I could get at the time. Obviously Nike’s were always the favorite. I went through a phase where Patrick Ewing shoes were really hot. I pretty much got whatever I could that was cool at the time.

Do you have a favorite sneaker of all-time?

It has to be the Protégé.

What’s the feedback been from the kids and parents?

It’s been great. I haven’t run into one person who hasn’t liked it. I have a lot of friends here in New York City that have tried them out and say they are very comfortable. A lot of kids at the Garden have the shoes on and I also read the blogs as well and really haven’t received any bad complaints about it. The first thing the parents say is “Thank you.”

What was the adjustment like going from Golden State to the New York Knicks?

It wasn’t that much of an adjustment. The biggest adjustment was just being comfortable in my own skin and getting back to playing my game. I don’t have to worry about someone screaming and fussing and all that type of stuff.

Is the screaming and fussing in reference to Golden State head coach Don Nelson?

Yeah. [Laughs]

How do you feel the Knicks chances are going into the stretch run?

We feel like if we can find a way to get to 40 wins I think we will get in. If we get somewhere in that range, we will be fighting. We just have to focus on winning as many games as possible.

Kobe or LeBron: Who had the more impressive performance at MSG in January?

I would give it to LeBron because not only did he have 52 points but also he had 12 assists and nine rebounds. So, I would give it to him.

Next stop, Boston?

Stephon Marbury was finally released from the New York Knicks, ending a season-long dispute between the point guard and the Knicks organization.

“A comprehensive agreement was made this afternoon between the New York Knicks and Stephon Marbury,” the Knicks said in a statement. “Under its terms, the grievance has been resolved and the Knicks have requested waivers on Stephon. No additional terms will be disclosed.”

Before the ink could even dry on the paper work, the rumors that Marbury was going to sign with Boston on Friday began.

In order to be a part of a playoff roster, Marbury would have to sign with a team by Sunday.

Considering he hasn’t played in a NBA game in over a year, how much help could Marbury provide the Celtics down the stretch run?

Trust me, Cleveland and Los Angeles are not worried about this move, either way.

As if being accused of making sexual advances to your limo driver in a lawsuit wasn’t bad enough, tragedy struck the Chicago native as his ex-girlfriend and her 10-month old daughter were murdered in front of his 3-year-old son.

Now word comes out today that Curry was indeed the father of 10-month-old Ava Goings, despite claims by Curry that he wasn’t the father.

Curry is married with four other children with his wife Patrice, which explains why he might have tried to distance himself from his young daughter.

A DNA test in September determined that Eddy was the father and the court increased his child support payments from $6,000 to $15,000 a month.

Everyone’s favorite inactive point guard is back in the news again.

New York Knicks guard Stephon Marbury has reportedly offered to return $1 million of his salary for this season so he can get his release and move on with his career.

According to Marbury, who took the offer off the table several weeks ago, an NBA team is interested in signing him.

The rumor has been that the Boston Celtics were looking to bring on Marbury to provide Rajon Rando some help at the point guard position.

But don’t rule out the Los Angeles Lakers, who are thin at the point with Jordan Farmar out until after the All-Star break and with veteran Derek Fisher logging 30+ minutes a night.

Steph was back at Staples Center earlier this week, courtside at the Lakers game.

And before you think Marbury is doing Knicks owner James Dolan a favor, he is making over $20 million this season to sit on his ass.

In the meantime, enjoy the warm weather in LA, Steph.

Have we found our second gay NBA player of record?

Limo driver David Kuchinsky thinks so.

Kuchinsky filed a lawsuit Monday that New York Knicks center Eddy Curry pointed a loaded gun at him in an attempt to keep him from complaining about sexual harassment and racial discrimination.

According to the lawsuit, Curry “on at least two different occasions, pointed a fully loaded, unclipped gun precisely in the plaintiff’s direction and saying ‘Look, the clips not in it’ and ‘Look, I have one in the chamber.’ ”

It goes on to say that “On more than one occasion in the last year of plaintiff’s employment, Curry approached him, in the nude, and tried to solicit him to engage in homosexual acts with him by telling the plaintiff ‘Look at me, Dave, look’ and ‘Come and touch it, Dave.’ ”

Ok, whoa.

“Come and touch it?”

That’s almost too good to be true, especially coming from a NBA player.

Curry’s camp is claiming extortion and that these charges are false.

The Knicks should claim extortion against Curry and his salary, but that’s for another day.

So many great news stories happened last week while I was on vacation … where do I even begin?
How about with one of the greatest quotes of the year from an athlete.

So many great news stories happened last week while I was on vacation … where do I even begin?

How about with one of the greatest quotes of the year from an athlete.

And no, it’s not LeBron or Charles calling each other stupid. (Real mature, fellas.)

New York Knicks point guard Stephon Marbury came out swinging at his soon-to-be former teammates including this gem of a line:

“When things got bad and then worse, guys like Quentin Richardson say, ‘I don’t consider him a teammate. He let his teammates out to dry.’ He didn’t care I was his teammate when I was banished. They left me out for dead. It’s like we’re in a foxhole and I’m facing the other way. If I got shot in the head, at least you want to get shot by the enemy. I got shot in the head by my own guys in my foxhole. And they didn’t even give me an honorable death.”

His basketball skills might be rusty on the bench but his soundbites aren’t.

There are two sides to this story between Marbury and the Knicks, but I’m leaning towards the side of Stephon.

Say what you will about his fat $20+ million contract, the Knicks were the ones who were dumb enough to give him all that cash.

At the very least, let the guy come off the bench and try to earn his paycheck.

Expect a divorce from the Knicks and Marbury to come as soon as Monday.
