Finally, redemption.

Team USA did what that were expected to do.

They defeated Spain in the gold medal game, 118-107, wiping away the nasty taste left in their mouths after a disappointing performance in Athens.

Every member of this Team USA basketball program didn’t just want this gold medal.

They needed this gold medal.

From Kobe Bryant, who has been criticized in the past for not playing an active role in Team USA Basketball, to Jason Kidd, who was looking to keep his perfect record of 56-0 in international competition intact.

Their celebration following the game proved that this was more than just your average basketball game.

It was gold or bust.

Usain Bolt is giving Michael Phelps a run for his money for most remarkable performance at this year’s Olympics.

Three races. Three gold medals. Three world records.

The Jamaican men’s 400-meter relay team ran a 37.10 and won gold, winning by the biggest margin in the relays since 1936.

When the United States failed to qualify Thursday, it was Jamaica’s gold for the taking.

Let the debate begin about the more impressive performance in the Olympics:

Usain Bolt broke the world record in the 200 meters, running a 19.30 to take home gold for Jamaica.

Michael Johnson held the old world record at 19.32, a mark he set during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

For a runner who claimed earlier in the week that he wasn’t interested in breaking records, Bolt actually ran a complete race for the first time in Beijing.

In winning the 200 meters, Bolt becomes the first athlete since Carl Lewis in 1984 to win gold in both the 100 and 200 meters.

Phelps won his eight. Bolt put Jamaica on the map. Team USA is blowing away the competition.

Can we just end the Olympics today?

The string of bad luck for the United States track and field team continued on Tuesday.

Sanya Richards, the favorite in the 400 meters, finished third after suffering an apparent hamstring injury during the last 80 meters of her race.

“I don’t even want to tell you what I’m thinking right now, because it’s not positive,” she said. “I feel so betrayed right now by my body. It’s so discouraging.”

And LoLo Jones, who was winning the 100-meter hurdles finals, hit the next to last hurdle, dropping her from the lead to a disappointing seventh place finish.

Luckily, U.S. teammate Dawn Harper was able to benefit from the opportunity and take home the gold.

Unfortunately, since NBC seems content on showing volleyball during their dayitme coverage, you can’t watch these races until their primetime coverage this evening.

Team USA finally showed flashes of dominance the “Dream Team” showed in 1992, routing Germany 106-57 in the final game of pool play.

You see what happens when you start hitting your outside shots.

The Americans shot 11-for-26 (42 percent) from three-point range, despite still struggling at the charity stripe (11-for-18) once again.

But before we hand over the gold medal to the United States, their next opponent is Australia, the team that gave the “Redeem Team” the most headaches during their time in China.

Even without their starting center Andrew Bogut, the Aussies (Oi, Oi, Oi!) lost by just 11 and held the Americans to just 87 points.

I mean, the United States wouldn’t actually lose to Australia … would they?

What’s up with the United States track and field team?

First, 100 meters favorite Tyson Gay failed to reach the finals.

Then on Saturday night, the Jamaican women took 1-2-3 in the 100 meters finals, with Muna Lee and Lauryn Williams finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.

To cap things off, Bernard Lagat, who ran and won silver in the 1,500 for Kenya in 2004, failed to qualify for the finals by .02 seconds.

Yikes.

At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if Allyson Felix didn’t medal in the 200 meters.

Amazing.

Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt broke his world record time in the 100 meters, running a 9.69, and taking home the gold medal.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Richard Thompson took the silver in 9.89 seconds with Walter Dix from the United States winning bronze.

Fellow countryman Asafa Powell finished a disappointing fifth, not nearly as disappointing as Tyson Gay, who failed to qualify for the 100 meters finals.

Bolt’s previous record was a 9.72, which he set in New York City on May 31.

In case you thought you have missed the live coverage of this epic race on NBC, you didn’t.

Instead of cutting away from this Team USA blowout against Spain, NBC won’t air the 100 meters finals until their primetime coverage Saturday night, nearly 12 hours after the world knows the results.

Good call, NBC.
