Video: Investigating Philly’s “Flash Mobs”
Published by Tanu Henry on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 9:28 am.Back on March 20, a series of text messages went out sending nearly 2,000 teens to Philadelphia’s famous South Street. According to some, total mayhem broke out. Reports say that there was bullying, vandalizing, violent assaults and robberies. The mainstream media named the mainly Black group of teens a “flash mob.” I guess that’s because they used social media to orchestrate the gathering.
This so-called “flash mob” event gained national attention and headlines around the country. Like most of you, I watched and thought…were Black kids really using the internet and social media to cause havoc, or was this just some over-hyped media event? I decided to find out for myself and headed to the City of Brotherly Love. I spoke with store owners whose shops were vandalized, and a victim that took a beatdown.
You’ve heard from the police commissioner and maybe the mayor, but we never heard anything from the teens that were there that day. In fact, nobody has…until now. Take a look and see what really went down behind the Philly flash mob story!
