Great Expectations
January 17th, 2009
Hey hey & Happy Saturday! I was watching Administration-Elect Obama-Biden on their whistle-stop tour this morning and noticed that Malia, the elder of his two daughters is getting hella’ tall. It reminded me of this article I’d seen where she basically tells her daddy that his inauguration speech “better be good.”
Aside from reminding us of just how amazingly precocious these two beautiful kids are, Malia’s comment pretty much sums up the entire planet’s take on Obama’s presidency-to-be: “it better be good.”
Wow. Talk about pressure. As I write this I’m visiting w/ my parents before heading down to DC and I hear my mom in another room give a joyful, high-pitched scream. She does it again and I know without asking, exactly who she is screaming for. The subsequent chant confirms it: “Obama! Obama!” Even sitting before a TV in the confines of her living room, watching our nation’s long-awaited knight-in-shining-armor takes on the feel and excitement of a political rally or better yet, a religious revival.
“Barack Obama, Global Saviour.” For a few still nursing a little post-election bitterness, such words might be uttered in derision. But for many they are mouthed with genuine hope. How wonderful would it be to see those hopes realized?
But there’s a problem. No one citizen is going to “save the world” anytime soon – the problems facing us are too many, too big and too difficult. The inescapable truth is that Barack Obama cannot “save us” any more than any of his predecessors could. One person cannot carry the weight of the world. But one person can most certainly inspire another to help take the weight.
If we are truly invested then in the dream of a better world, then I say let’s give a great man a hand. Let us not rest on our national laurels in the wake of having “already made history” a few months ago. Rather, let’s believe in the dream enough to put our own heart, soul, mind & muscle into realizing it. Because if each of us does our part to help this new President be the hero we are looking for, then he will surely succeed…and so will we.
So the next time you feel that overwhelming sense of inspiration at the idea of an Obama Nation; that good vibe that gets you going enough to make you shout out loud! Ask yourself one question: “what am I going to do to help make this happen?” Whatever you come up with…
It better be good.

I don’t think a lot of people understand that our new president can’t solve of our nation’s problems. The issues we have in the Black community have been around for decades now and there has been little progress. Obama can’t stop the violence and crime in our communities. He can’t stop the drug use and drug dealing. He can’t stop unmarried, uneducated and unemployed people from having babies they can’t afford. He can’t stop some of us from living beyond our means. He can’t stop some women from dating thugs and claiming there are no good Black men. We as Black people are the only ones who can CHANGE the things i just mentioned.
We have watched history be made recently. But it is all up to us to act like a nation of black people with some common sense. Just because Obama is in the office we donot need to run out here and act a @#@#$$#4 fool. We need to have some class and diginty for ourselves and if you see another showing out, tap them on the shoulder and see hey get it together. We need to stop hating and talking about each other. Lets work towards being better so he can do two terms and make the change we need to correct some of the problems in America.
well i don’t think obama is american savior ,but i do believe obama barack is God will and God will used him for his purpuce.
i remenber before the election day i was on the western coast and going to church often the light of God appear to me and i knew in advance obama will be the next president of usa.
now i asked all american to pray for his safety and his family.
THE LORD ALWAYS USED WHATEVER HE WANT .
AND LET’S GOD DO WITH IT AS HE WILLS.
the messiah came ,but he should come again.now all nation will see.
of course i think obama is our savior after what bush did i would think obama is our savior he is an inspiration to me he is helping a lot of kids are follow their dreams
This is the day that we have all been waiting on Obama will make a change in the world and for the world. We will have a great day for all no matter what color you are He has made it especially for us blacks because the world has told us that we can not do it but we have. Obama is the other man that we have been looking for and waiting on just like Martin had said we will have a change in the world. Just by the little things that Obama has done so far is an inspiration for us all and now all children will know that anything they dream about will come true someday foe them all
We have made it!! I just hope that this will show the younger generation that we as black people can do anything.
I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN TAUGHT IT, NEVER THOUGHT IT BUT NOW BARACK OBAMA BROUGHT IT! THANK YOU FOR MAKING A BELIEVER OUT OF ME. THANK YOU AMERICA FOR LETTING ME REALLY BELIEVE ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. MR. PRESIDENT STAY TRUE TO YOU AND I KNOW THAT YOU WILL LEAD OUR COUNTRY BACK WHERE WE NEED TO BE AND EVER BETTER. I AM FOURTY-THREE AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I FELT LIKE I WASN’T LYING TO MY CHILDREN WHEN I TOLD THEM YOU CAN BE WHATEVER YOU WANT! GOD BLESS AMERICA
