Being Barack Obama…Part II

After I got over feeling so inspired and amazed by the story J.T. told me (see my previous post “Being Barack Obama…Part I”), my natural high was a little dampened when the news channel we were watching switched to the remarks Clinton made about Bobby Kennedy’s assassination and discussion in the shop changed.

“We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California,” Hillary was quoted last week in S. Dakota while campaigning. She was referring to how abruptly things change within elections but said that the comment was not meant to be related to Obama. Even IF that wasn’t her intention, even IF Hillary was afraid that her campaign is destined to fail unless a major change happens within the election, she STILL makes a valid observation.

Assassination is a controversial issue that’s been skirted in this campaign. I can’t tell you how many news websites I’ve been on where they’ve pulled a video of him from the web because of the thousands of negative slurs posted. It’s not the first time I’ve heard it mentioned and I’m sure it’s not the first for you either.

My parents always told me I could be whatever I wanted to be when I grew up. Even the president of the United States….nobody ever mentioned assassination. Do you think this is an issue in this campaign? Should Obama be watching his back?

Obama better watch his back, legs, arms, neck and any other part that a bullet proof vest cant cover. This world is a terrible place. I pray he wins and I pray he lives to make a change. With God anything is possible and we must always believe that.

Yes Barack needs to watch his back. Hilary Clinton knows better for what she said, and I think shouldn’t have gotten off soo easily for what she said. Because the comment came from out of nowhere, a comment no one was thinking about until she brought it up and put it in someone’s mind. She’s purely evil she’s trying to turn people agianst the Democratic party and Barack. First by saying that if the democratic party doesn’t count Florida and Michigan than their not being fair and “democratic” ( when she didn’t follow the rules to begin with) and second by her husband saying that she’s been disrespected and there’s some conspiracy out against her, lol. She’s intentionally trying to make people angry at Barack and the Democractic party. And she just happens to slip up share a parallel between this campaign and jfk’s assassination. Hmmm that’s not a coincedence people.

Travers, What are your thoughts on the recent controversy involving Father Pfleger?

I really don’t understand why they matter so big on that speech of Hillary concerning the sudden dead of political persons? Sure Hillary wants the power and is trying to involve everything to reach that power.

But, as well I think that Hillary with everything she commented or she supported on comments concerning her competitor, she just lost more and more voters.

I am convinced that Obama is conscious concerning the general risk of being killed during his time as the president of the USA and still more of being the first black president of the USA. And, obviously he accepts it.

What I think as well is, that more and more black people should go into politics as only then a change will be possible within the current situation, because even though he will survive, one alone can’t do much if he stays alone as he stays alone. Whites that easy worldwide won’t give their power.

I am 18 and did not finish school and has been working since the age of 14 at a dead end job to pay for my personal needs. I am not able to vote though i am 18 due to personal reasons, and is upset by the fact that i can not be able to allow myself to play a part in who will be basically in charge of what my future holds. I will be getting my diploma and going to college to gain a career and i would like that there will be more choices and options in jobs. I would like to see which ever of our next future president will be concerned in our needs to be able to make money as well and be just as successful. With more jobs more people would be able to actually afford the prices of gas. Which is a good example of why our gas prices are so high maybe because people who are trying their hardest to have and keep a steady job cannot afford a car or to pay the outstanding prices in gas so gasstations raising their prices for the few customers they are now recieving is how they are making their profit because of a cut in customers who cannot afford the price of gas today. Also more jobs means more people with able health benefits. I did not like seeing my older friends and family suffer from bushes mistakes in his years of presidency and struggle to make ends meat for them selves and us when they have the potential just not many options in our economy to be able to afford or live a simple happy life and waste their highest potentials because there is no oportunities for us. Now that i am older and responsible for myself i do not want to live the way we did with president bush. My issue mainly is finding more jobs for those who need it most. Thank you.

Of course Barack needs to watch his back just as blacks have had to do since the Nadeer (dont know what it is, look it up). One thing that 9/11 did was show white folk how it is to be black in America. Constantly terrorized!! One thing that us as a people need to do is stop being reactive but be proactive.

If there is a threat to Baracks life shouldnt we as a people be trying our hardest to protect him?? Let me put it in perspective. If you knew that someone was sending your brother threating messages and threatening his life would you A, wait and saw what happened or B, take all the necessary precautions to protect your brothers life because you love your brother. If you picked A then i would NOT wont to be a part of your family. Barack is our brother and we should not be waiting around hoping that something bad doesnt happen. We should be out there making sure that it doesnt.

To Danielle, thank you so much for sharing your personal story with us. I know times can get hard but struggle can’t last always! So hang in there.

I agree with Christina that it would be nice to see more African Americans in political positions. And I think within the next few years we just might see that happen.

I’m pretty sure that we’re all for protecting his life ERAW, but how would we go about that? As someone said, I’m sure he knows the risk he’s putting himself into and I hope the black community is appreciative of that effort. The way I see it, he’s paving the way.

OK, just a few points for some of you folks. A. Bullet proof vests aren’t “bullet proof”, they can be punctured by high caliber rifle rounds (look at the North Hollywood shoot out). Also, Kevlar vests DO protect the back of a person (its a VEST, think shirt) but I get the overall point of the commenter.
B. Hilary was referencing BOBBY Kennedy’s assassination in 1968, not his brother John’s.

Jameka Said on

I’m really not sure where to start but mainly I want to say that even if Hillary was elected as President, no one thinks she would have threats of assassination?? I mean America isnt really accepting toward powerful Blacks and it sure as hell doesnt put WOMEN on an equal playing field, especially when it comes to power. There are probably some men out there with shot guns pointed at their temples ready to pull the trigger if a WOMAN was the most powerful person in the country. Hillary was wrong for the comment and if Barack wouldve said it, all hell wouldve broke loose BUT she needs to watch her back, front, side, and everything else too.

I’m curious as to what Eraw wants us to do to protect Obama…go camp out on his steps w/spears, rifles, and torches? Please tell us your plan.

Some of the other comments were unnecesseary and really didnt prove a point, make a point, or have a point, but I wont even go there. Keep up the good work Ashley!
