Michael Chertoff has some competition….

Just when I thought I had seen it all this comes along… David Banner is RUNNING for Secretary of Homeland Security. This video is an attempt (some may say) at humor, but others do find that this video is actually comical. Watch for yourself to voice your opinion.
Seriously? Wow, I am so done… officially done! Silly Banner, politics are not for you. Not in this aspect at least. HA!
I am aware that this is not a real video to run for this position but rather a promotion for his new album, but others may think differently. Yes it is a funny video, but it is also misleading to some who may not know about government positions. Maybe Mr. Banner doesn’t know this, but you can’t be elected for this position. Members of the Cabinet are appointed not elected. However, can you imagine if someone like this actually made it into the White House?!
Is this just another way for people to view African-Americans negatively or is it just simple fun?
What do you think of this video? Is it funny, offensive, idiotic or just so out there that you have no words? Let me know!

Mr. Banner is lacking in one area where Critics on a consistent level would devour him. It’s called T A C T. Vinegar has never been a luring substance for ALL of the masses. Hopefully experience will/should teach him this.
This is NO time for cooning!!!
David Banner sit yo dumb A S S down!!!
whatever dude.
I admire David Banner’s passion in music and with his involvement in politics…i teach history at the college level in CA and I sat down one day to listen to his entire CD (MS) and was impressed that he wove the tumltous events during Jim Crow into his lyrics…for a hot minute, I thought that perhaps he was a historian…I have done extensive research in MS for a documentary on a Muslim slave and my dissertation…I wish he could come speak to my class one day…
@b
People can say what they want and think what they want to think. You don’t know who I am or what i do for my school, job, and community. One thing that I know is that I’m active and concerned about my community. For your information “Ms. B”, it wasn’t a concert, it was a community meeting for youth to come together and discuss the social issues that they were facing as young adults growing up in this society.I’m not racist either. I’m just curious of why he says one thing and does another. If you were me and knew who I were, you’ll know these types of things. I’m work within the industry and I know things and I know people that know people. If you would spend your time wisely focusing on you and your goals, you’ll probably feel good about yourself instead of commenting on something I wrote. I’m a writer and I will use my God given talent to inform the people whether you like it or not.
My point that I was trying to make is that black people, especially men, need to take things more seriously when you have the opportunity to be an advocate for young people and for African Americans. Television and music has taken over. Instead of reading and studying, kids starting from the age of five are desperate to learn songs that degrade our culture and women and watch shows that promote sex. How can you constantly have half naked women and guns in pictures and videos but you want to get involved in politics? Idols today are not sending a positive message to young people like they should. They are telling them that balling is the life instead of encouraging them of methods to have a good life.Poor hollywood! The whole world has this connotation that if you’re not in hollywood or either trying to get there, you’re nothing. It’s nothing but the devil’s playground, according to Revelations Ch. 18.”Let those that are wise read this” Life at this point of time is not about materialistic things. It’s about having faith, family values, and knowing who you are and what you want to do with your life. Finally, it’s about helping each other out so we can change our lives for the better……Correct me if i’m wrong………….When people do or say stupid things, it makes it harder for the next hardworking brother or sister in line. David Banner is educated but he’s not giving back as much as he should. I’m not talking about money either. There are less fortunate kids in Jackson still waiting on the Christmas presents that he promised them in 2007. I know because I work for the television station and I know the community leaders in my city because I am one. I have learned that when the cameras leave, they’re gone until the next photo opportunity. I’m not hating, I just hope he uses these words of encouragement to inspire others that look up to him. We love that he made it because Mississippi is always looked over. But, I can’t name or count one person he has tried to help break through the music industry from Mississippi. Jacksonians take that into perspective because if you notice, other artist from other states bring each other into the game. I know the street business and he has less respect than what he had when he first started because he’s selfish when it comes to acknowledging other musically talented individuals from Mississippi. I call it how I see it and from what I know. I hope this inspires others and lead them to be true to themselves and others and for them to never forget where they came from. Just as God has blessed an individual, he can take it all back within a twinkle of an eye. Please express yourself and let me know how you feel….maybe BET will give me a job for being so honest and direct. When you respond, you make me happy and put more dollars into BET’s pocket. Keep up the good work “Ms. B”…..or whoever you are. By the way, where are you from?
Da Truth has spoken and Da Truth shall set you free……..
@ DA TRuth
Please tell me what you are doing to give back….and dont say writing/journalism. Though you seem to be a talented writer, you are very judgmental and bias in your writings, which shows you are just like the rest of the journalist we readers just dispise. I understand your beef with Mr. Banner, but as a black person whether man or woman if you are going to continously pull bash someone you should at least mention the positive things they are doing. So because he didnt bring anybody from jackson he is not a good role model…get real that is a bunch of bull just to be frank with you…if I can recall he was one of the only people to help victims of katrina from mississippi period! I dont hear none of you journalist criticizing Brett Favre or Steve Mcnair for aiding anybody in Mississippi in their time of need. I wonder why! But im not here to talk down on you because everybody has their own opinions but you have to come with a much stronger argument than he not doing something for jacksonians…thats just obsurd. I have family from mississippi and im from Louisiana so I kno that they do not have talent bubbling over in mississippi period….LOL…just saying
@ the realest
I don’t have any beef with anyone. This is a blog, so I expressed my feelings about what i know. yes, he has done some great things and he’s very articulate.people are not perfect, you are just like the couch potatoes…agreeing with everything you see on tv and not reading a bit. do all of us a favor….read a book and learn how to spell since you’re so anxious to write. don’t take it personal either. As a black woman I like to help my people when they fall so they can get up again. this is constructive criticism if you know what that means. I did a lot for Katrina victims. Actually, in dozens of cities but you wouldn’t know that. I even gutted houses while I was sick because it’s in me to other people in need. did you travel to new orleans to help people? did you raise money and awareness about the disenfranchisement of blacks in New orleans? did you give away your personal things to help people? no, i don’t think so!!!!Please…please..please don’t let these comments fool you. you’re just like the readers….judgemental and bias. i’m not the type to be in the lime light for attention. I wasn’t raised that way.Look, stop trying to make me seems as if I have beef with him. if anyone else has something to say please feel free to comment. I love it when you do it because i don’t take it personal unlike some of you.
Have a Blessed day!
You know what?
If he was serious, it is a damn shame how BLACK EVIL TELIVISION is treating this. David Bannor is a very inteligent Man from Mississippi. He has a lot to say and I feel he has represented Hip hop better than a lot of these SO-called CEO’s and Bling Bling loosers!! I mean Geroge Bush can sniff coke and Clinton can smoke weed but When hip hop tries to make a difference it seemd that the first to strike is BET. Man if this is how it is goona be then Deb needs to give Bob his job back. David man i love you for giving us (hip-hop) a Positive voice!!
And to Keisha… Ok i bet if Obama appointed Mr. Bannor to the spot, i bet your silly self would jsut stop. Obama is a force to be noticed. A black man with intelligence and enough street smarts to know haters when he sees them. I.E. Jesse (Cheating in the next room) Jackson and Don’t get me started on Al Sharpton. Stuff ain’t like it used to be with MLK and the Civil Rights movement. Now these Niggas yes I said Niggas want money!!

Thank you for your comments. If the difference you speak of is what you viewed in the video above then it is a sad day in America. As for your other question, if Obama DID appoint Mr. Banner my opinion would stay the same.
But on the other side of things everyone has a voice and I am glad that you decided to use yours.

whatever dude
Well, yes its funny as well as can be true! If Arnold (former actor of Terminator) can be the Govenor of California, then Lavell (rap artist) can be Secretary of Homeland Security!
~Tyti- Youngest Child Politic~
you got a valuable point Tyti!
@ Da truth
Thanks, but just because Lavell made a statement about how much he loves black women doesn’t mean he ever stated about not liking white women. Therefore there’s no possible way that he would seem hypocritical. Yes, it is true that some African American men don’t take issues like this as serious as others, but that’s because there isn’t alot of people who will take time and tell people why what’s going on is serous.
@ Da truth, realest and b
Getting at each other isn’t going to accomplish proving ya’ll point.
I think this is just proven to the world that we are nothin but dumb, foolish, ignorant, and just plain stupid. Saying your going to do something and then your not going to do it and then expect it to be a joke. THAT IS JUST WRONG AND I HAVE LOST ALL RESPECT FOR HIM.
