Real “Change,” or Just More of the Same?

This morning President-Elect Barack Obama announced that Senator Hillary Clinton, his former rival for President, is his nominee for U.S. Secretary of State.  He said that, “Hillary’s appointment is a sign to friend and foe of the seriousness of my commitment to renew American diplomacy and restore our alliances…I have no doubt that Hillary Clinton is the right person to lead our State Department and to work with me in tackling this ambitious foreign policy agenda.”

Obama also appointed Dr. Susan Rice, an African American woman, as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.  (If you don’t already know about this phenomenal woman YOU NEED TO!! Click here to read up on her.)

However, his nominations are already receiving fire from supporters and opponents alike who say that, with Hillary Clinton’s appointment, Susan Rice’s ties to the Bill Clinton administration, and Obama’s announcement that Bush Administration Defense Secretary Robert Gates will stay in his position, the national security team nominees don’t represent the “change” that Obama promised during the campaign.

In response, Obama said “What we are going to do is combine experience with fresh thinking. But understand … the vision for change comes first and foremost … from me. That’s my job.”

But what do you think? Is Obama making the right decision in appointing Clinton, Gates,  and the rest of his team? Do they represent real “change we can believe in,” or are they just more of the same?”

Hit me up to break it down.

It’s amazing how people are scrutinizing his every decision BEFORE he gets into office, but we didn’t take the time to scrutinize any of Bush’s decisions BEFORE or even WHILE he is in office. Obama can’t do any worse than him! Let’s face it, he won not because he followed our “infinite blogging advice” and since no one here, I’m guessing, has ever run a country, let’s let the man do his thing! If you all will remember, this is a democratic year, and the last democrat in office was…CLINTON! And during Clinton’s reign, things were MUCH better! So, what if he chooses to use some of the people from the Clinton administration? That’s his choice! And he seems to be picking the cream of the crop of them. So, let the man do his thing. We all are talking about change and all, none of us believed a Black man could win the presidency…he proved us wrong….so let’s just wait and see. I know we all here are political geniuses and all, but let’s give the guy a chance! He hasn’t even been sworn in yet, and we are..in our “infinite political wisdom”…second guessing his every move. He got where he is because he is smart…Let’s let him do his thing!

… and let’s remember we are in TWO wars right now…how stupid and politically naive would it be to switch heads (Gates) all of a sudden? Say your house is on fire and you are trapped and a fireman is in sight to get you out…when his shift is over, do you want him to just turn around and leave and let the new guy (who has no idea exactly where you are in the house) come get you?? You are already at risk of dying of smoke inhalation or of fire ….what do you think that does to your risk…if he said, …”it’s 5:00, my shift is over, I’ll holla…” and walked out?? Exactly. We need to go sit down with all this “wisdom” we’ve got and let that man do his job! LOL!
