YOU(th) Vote! as always was your eyes and ears at the Hip Hop Caucus’ Respect the Vote voter registration initiative! The Hip Hop Caucus teamed up with the King of South, T.I. Rev. Lennox Yearwood, and a gang of other celebrities who came out to show just how important voting is to them. I caught up with T.I., Dawn Richard from Danity Kane, Yung Berg, DJ Green Lantern and some other entertainment impresario’s to get the real deal on voting, Hip Hop, and the issues in this election, that matter most to them. The Get Out the Vote campaign is using grassroots organizing tactics and multi-media platforms to mobilize and energize the 18-29 voting demo to get out and vote! T.I. along with Rev. Yearwood led the voting campaign, which plans to use PSA’s for radio, TV commercials, online interactive websites, mobile and email alerts & press events to aggressively recruit the youth voting demo to the polls.

I’ve always been proud that I registered to vote when I turned 18. I saw what bad leadership in my city, did to the lives of the people living there. But I realized that a lot of young people don’t either know the power and importance of voting for their representation, or they simply feel like their vote won’t count. They’ve seen presidents come and go, and the quality of their lives stay the same. 80% of the 18-29 voting demographic that actually showed up to the polls in the last presidential election were college educated. That leaves 60% of people our age out! Not everyone is going to be college educated, of course college is a good look but hey, it’s not for everyone. And just because you didn’t attend college, doesn’t mean that your opinion and voice doesn’t matter; because it does. Check it, plenty of these celebrities who attended the event haven’t attended college, but they’re using their star power to promote the vote.
