I have read this autobiography and it gives the state of mind in which these individuals live by they see their gang as their family. I love this book it has been the book the i read over 100x but what makes it great is that he is telling the truth. He is telling the story of a man, dad, son. He is showing the complications in life. It gives u an inside of what he was living and the cause and effect on his life. I love this book because it has some how let me understand those who choose the gangster path. It shows how it fills a void in their life. but most of all it show how life changes you.

in a warped way , Monster Kody is a hero. i say this because if you are capable of reading his book , it is intended to take you so deep into the mind of a human killing machine , that you would not want to aspire to live that life. i have lived a street life and was able to escape basically unscaved. however , i feel that if i would have had insight into what i would encounter as a thug , from an og like Monster Kody , i would have abandoned the thug life years before i did. Mr. Shakur , i admire you and respect you for if nothing else attempting to make a positive change in the community. and as irresponsible as it may sound , i respect you for representing your hood to the fullest. i think because of the amount of violence that comes with reppin the hood , it is lost to outsiders that holding down home is a natural human reaction.

I read ‘Monster” Kody Scott Autobiography of a gang banger, I was wrapped completely by his compelling story. I think I read it close to 30x, It was like a lover (the book) to me while I was in College. The descriptive mannor in which his story is told in the book is right on. I grew up in L.A. around the same time, but was raised completely different, and was always fascinated by the gang life and bad boys. I had dated secretely a young man who was in a gang, he was murdered and Kody Scott’s book gave me a inside perspective as to why and how one fall’s into the gang-life and the over all mentality. The documentary of Monster Kody and his younger brother and the world of prison life completely fascinating! I look forward to reading and knowing more. Keep your head up.

Fati Shakur said on November 21st, 2008
My name is Fati Shakur. I was featured on the Monster episode. Sanyika is my comrade as a New Afrikan, not my homie. I read his book back in 1991 before it was even finished. We were in the hole at Chino’s palm hall facility which is where he named me Fati and taught me how to speak Swahili. He also inspired me to write my own book. But I won’t use this forum to promote the book. I was inspired to write this because of his daughter Keonda’s comment. During the production of the show I felt that it was very important for his until now, invisible family to be seen and heard. I felt that it was detrimental for the bangers to see the very human fatherhood side of him. I reached out to my Sista Tamu Shakur and she did the rest. I’d also like to thank producer P. Frank for the excellent job he did in bringing both sides of Sanyika’s life to the forefront. If the viewers were paying attention they’d realize that his story was really about FATHERHOOD. We have a black President now who made it without a father so we have no more excuses. It’s time for black men to stand up and be more responsible. It’s time to break this fatherless cycle, and that’s what my upcoming book is about. Keonda I’m proud of you for stepping up to claim your father. Now it’s time to work on him and all the rest of the missing fathers out there. Tamu, you and the kids are always in my heart.
