New Edition kicked off what is sure to be a night full of homages to the King of Pop with a performance of Jackson 5 classics.
While no one can certainly jig and croon like MJ, the 80s answer to the 70s classic group did a great job capturing the spirit of the Jackson family without any of Joe’s beatdowns. Somewhere I hope my namesake (no really it was between Mike and Randy) is smiling as much as the crowd did.
In addition to having an incredible voice, killer choreography, and impressive array of wigs (I mean that in a good way, I swear), Michael Jackson had a great sense of humor.
To that end, I’m sure he’s looking down smiling and shamoning at Jamie Foxx’s opening monologue at the BET Awards.
Let’s hope Michael’s spirit continues to shine through this year’s award show.
He was my First Love as a little Black girl sitting up real close to our floor model b&w tv. I sent real money in envelopes trying to buy the fan merchandise. Sometimes it came, sometimes it didn’t. But since I’m not materialistic, no one can take away what Michael and The Jackson 5 gave me. Of course Mike’s solo career was off the charts as he changed and gained Love around the planet. I feel for those of you whose lives intermingled with his own. My heart is broken for us. I pray his children have something close to a normal life. God Bless you all at the award show tonight, I wish I could watch or attend. The days and nights of mourning are not ended, but JOY from our Heavenly Father will lift us up again. Stay Strong.
May MJ rest in peace… peace and calm be unto his family as they mourn their huge loss… love, honesty and guidance be bestowed upon his 3 children… AND may BET rethink ever hosting any other tribute show. This was shameful…embarrassing and an insult to the Jackson Family…
Debra Lee should be held complete accountable for this tribute gone terribly wrong.
Jamie Foxx acted as if he has never been on TV. He is a disgrace! I will never go to another of his movies or buy his music.
I have programed the BET channel as a “parental approval” channel, that way no one can ever watch it without my passcode!
Just a disgrace to all balck people!!!
