What Did He Say: NAS

Published by LowKey on Monday, June 23, 2008 at 7:23 pm.

So I was pushing and shoving my way through the Radio Remote Zoo and I overheard one of the radio personalities talking to Nas about the recent riff raff that is Ice-T and Soulja Boy. The DJ asked Nas if he knew of the situation and surprisingly Nas knew every fact. After stating the situation between the two was absurd, he shocked me AGAIN! To the surpise of many listening, Nas endorsed the statement heard ROUND the world. “YAAAAAAHHH TRICK YAAAAAHH”! Yup, that’s right, Nas and Soulja Boy have connected on a level none of us could fathom. Nas said and I quote “Whenever someone annoys me, I just yell Yahhhh Trick Yaahhhhhh!” I guess Nas isn’t that out of touch after all huh? Boy I tell you, these BET Awards make people say the darndest of things!

Sincerely

LowKey’s Predictions: Best New Artist

Published by LowKey on Monday, May 26, 2008 at 11:51 pm.

Since the 2008 BET Awards are a little under a month away, it’s only right LowKey hits you with his selection of pre-meditated winners for this year’s festivities. First up, Best New Artist. This year we have Flo-Rida, Estelle, Chrisette Michelle, The Dream and Soulja Boy.

With each contender leaving their musical mark on the masses with their respective tunes, it’s somewhat of a toughie to pull this year’s winner out of my fitted. I mean Flo-Rida had the biggest ringtone gem with “Low”, Estelle brought a lot U.K. love over to the U.S., Chrisette Michelle melted our hearts with her vintage vocals and The Dream stole all of our significant others while opening up for Jay and Mary on the Heart Of The City tour. However, with all that said, Soulja Boy garnered the most attention with his cult classic dance tune, “Crank Dat”.

Yea the song was annoying, but it blared from every Bat Mitzvah speaker to every after work function across America. What’s most surprising about the sudden success of this young teeny bopper is that he accomplished it all sans the help of a major label; YouTube and MySpace were his advertising cohorts.

17-years-old and his grass roots campaign is more successful then some of your favorite artists….I think that deserves Best New Artist honors. Tomorrow, we’ll chop it up about Best Male R&B Artist….KEEP IT LOCKED!

Sincerely
