Alumni Area: STRUGGLE
May 5th, 2009
After watching this episode, “struggle,” was the first word that came to mind. It opens with Kyle dealing with his argument with Allison and how he felt about the comment she made about his father. Was Allison right for defending the new housemate Kathryn? Or was Kyle entitled to his own opinion? Either way, this was not the fight that rocked this episode.
The next struggle was one that is all too familiar. It was the struggle for freedom. The group visited Key West where they were informed of how slaves were brought over to Jamaica in shackles. Instantly, Milan felt a connection because of her roots in Jamaica. I agree with Kathryn that the shackles made an impact. (Even though I thought she laughed at first, later I noticed she began to cry.) I always enjoy when “College Hill” gets educational. LOL. Paul makes an excellent point about how petty the arguments are in the house compared to what African Americans have been through.
Poor Kathryn was already struggling being the new girl trying to fit in and make friends. She went to see the house for the first time and it was dirty and smelly. What a situation to walk into! Tiffany tried to clean up and even though she is new, Kathryn jumps right in and lends a helping hand. Now I can see why Paul may be interested in her….
Now the struggle you all have been waiting for…..The MUSH!!! I almost fell on the floor when Kyle said “Brandon gets mushed.” I thought that was just a Virginia thing! Let me break down the definition of “mush” (or in the past tense mushed). “Mushed” (verb) is when a person puts their hand on your face and pushes your head with force.
According to Chris, he mushed Brandon because he called him a b*%^@. He said that he asked Brandon not to call him out of his name. Brandon feels as though he was mushed because Chris is jealous of him. He thinks he is jealous because Tiffany was attracted to him first and that the ladies enjoy looking at his chest. (I don’t know if that is true but I DO ENJOY LOOKING AT HIS CHEST.)
So this goes on for a couple of minutes with Kyle trying to hold Chris back and asking for Paul’s help. Paul stays out of it and says that the two “grown men” should fight it out. The housemates are upset with Paul and think he should have stepped in. Milan even tries to explain to him that fighting is not the answer (she was in an altercation with Terry) and that you will still feel the same way afterwards, plus you will have to go home.
Though, at some point Paul does step in and holds Chris back, after doing such a good deed, Paul then chooses to pick up the “bat phone” and tells production he wants to go home to his aunt’s house. NO PAUL DON’T LEAVE!!! The whole thing seemed to have blown over but apparently that is not the last of the Brandon vs. Chris feud. What will happen next??? You will have to tune in to find out.
One thing I can say is this cast is very fun and colorful. You have the best narrator ever in KYLE, who keeps it real and speaks his mind. The diva MILAN, who holds it down on the fashion tip and knows how to handle herself. A petite cutie TIFFANY, who has the boys’ hearts racing. The ladies’ eye candy, handsome BRANDON. The ultra real soul sista ALLISON, who is smart and stands up for what she believes in. CHRIS is the intellectual roughneck, who can intimidate you with his mind as well as his muscles. The street smart diverse Paul, who lets you know where he is from and how they do it. Last but not least, Kathryn (aka Kay) the “new girl,” who makes a big statement with small actions. She may not be loud and opinionated, but she knows how to get her point across. And shout out to the tongue-lashing Terry. You did your thing and it doesn’t go unnoticed.
The cast as a whole is awesome and the season is great! No struggle there! Can’t wait to see how it all ends. God Bless.
P.S. Look out for my new book, Embrace Yourself: The Guide to Happiness & Bliss, available in stores and online Fall 2009.
