It Really Was the Hottest Ticket!

June 30th, 2008

They say it’s the hottest ticket on television!! The 2008 BET Awards was exactly. Myself along with three other castmates took the trip to Los Angeles full of excitement to see what these few days had in store for us. It was a struggle trying to get there but the morning of the awards was an adventure. Dorion and I had to find a cleaners to steam our outfits. We had to get everybody to our hotel before our special makeup artist all the way from Atlanta arrived. It was hectic, makeup had to be done and imagine getting dressed for an event such as this in one hotel room with five other people. It was crazy but fun. We all got to help each other. The limosine arrived to pick us up, and of course we all weren’t ready. Dennis was on his way but in fact took way too long. Unfortunately we had to leave him and never spoke to him again. I don’t know what happened to him. We finally arrived. We were the first to walk the red carpet. That means we got all the attention before the really big celebs arrived. After speaking to everyone, we took our seats to watch the opening by ATL’s own Usher. He sort of disappointed me because he was lipsincing his entire performance. My favorite was Rihanna. I love her style! Neo also had great choreography with his dancers. Ciara looked great. And the Alicia Keys performance was awesome. She really brought out some legends, TLC, En Vogue, SWV couldn’t have been better.

We have a blast throughout the night. The buffet at the BETs official after party was the best. In fact that was my favorite part. Ashley R. and Dorion enjoyed getting drunk for free. The drinks kept coming! I had a blast seeing celebrities outside of Atlanta. I get tired of seeing the same ones at home. However, we partied with Boris Kodjoe, and that’s a whole lot of man! LOL. Cuba Gooding Jr. was so nice. Dorion was embarrassing us around everybody, but it was cool because everybody felt the same way. Networking throughout the room was very important. In fact, I hardly saw Sira the whole time. Her and Ivy from the Interns show were running around chasing celebs to get pictures with them. They really wanted to show they had a great time. I met a lot of great connects myself. The party ended quite early. I hear they all close early in LA. We went back to the hotel and went to sleep after joking around. Everybody returned home back to Atlanta. I stayed a couple of days to hang with friends and eat Roscoes Chicken and Waffles everyday!! You gotta love it. Thanks BET for the great experience!!

Daina’s POV

Firstly, I’d like to say….WELCOME TO LONDON “COLLEGE HILL ATLANTA.” Being on the show was a really cool experience for me. To be honest, I really didn’t know how big it was going to be because BET just launched in the UK, and we are always behind America when it comes to American shows. (Click on the link for more on BET in the UK.)

Although we only got to spend one week with the housemates, I had so much fun. The DRAMA was crazy. … There really is no difference between us, except that you don’t like our food, and you don’t know about FUNKY HOUSE! Funky house is BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG OUT HERE…AMERICA GET TO KNOW! The music just takes over your body, and you can’t do nothing else but ‘shock out’!

Living in the UK is great – and it’s not just about rain and White people. LOL. Our culture is unique, as we have so many different cultures that we embrace, whether it’s being African (yep that’s me), Asian, Caribbean or White. It’s all love out here.

The housemates gave me the joke of my life, even when the tension got too much. As a group, they’re all crazy, but as individuals they are so blessed. It’s about impressions and perceptions, and it’s hard to get the full picture when you haven’t spent a lot of time with them. The UK peeps walked into a group that already had history, and we could sense it straight away.  We were still getting to know one another, but at the same time we had to get to know the housemates and not be fazed by the hostility that they tried hard not to make obvious. To top it all off, it was done in front of a camera.  It’s not easy having cameras in your face 24-7. I definitely found that hard. I’m not used to it, but I’m glad I got to have the experience.

My best moments: It would have to be when we went clubbing as everyone just let go of themselves. Dennis showed off his skills on the dance floor and so did some UK dancers from a group called BOY BLUE. It was like a little dance off-THE UK vs. USA. LOL. It was so cool. I loved it! I also enjoyed showing you to  my ‘ends’ and getting to know my people and family. It was a bit personal but cool at the same time.

Worst moments:  The arguing/tension. It wasted so much time, but I guess certain things just have to be said, and you can’t please everyone, can ya?

Big shout out to all the housemates. It’s not easy what you guys are doing. Nuff love.  I haven’t been to America yet, but I’m coming soon, and I know you’ll show me a good time!

London, here we come!

I cannot express enough how excited we are. We are so happy to be leaving Atlanta for a week! Who gets a chance to take trips out of the country in the middle of the semester? Us, of course. We always need a change of scenery just to see what will happen next. I can’t believe how everyone reacted about last episode’s drama. However, there is still all that tension in the house. Ashley L. explains to her sis that “Drew started popping off at the mouth.” This was very funny, considering she started breaking him down first and gave him no choice but to get crunk!

It didn’t look like Drew was doing a lot of talking to me; it looked as if he was ready for some action. In fact, he’s still looking like he’s ready to fight one of the girls because he’s walking around the house looking all crazy, taking shots in the kitchen, staring out of the window like something is seriously on his mind. I had to sit him down and put him up on game and let him know to chill out. If Drew does anything to one of these females, he will be in the wrong. No matter what, if a guy hits a female, it’s all over. Out of all the females, I figured I would be kind enough to sit him down and have a sensible conversation because our relationship is not sour. I sometimes feel for Drew. He’s not a bad guy; he’s just … well, I haven’t quite figured it out yet, but he just needs guidance at times. In fact, we all do. I will tell you one thing: There is no need to bring these issues to London. London is one of the fashion capitals, so I’m ready to go enjoy myself and, perhaps, meet some English men!
