Do you believe that people who are helped consistently by the church, through programs, food banks and other outreach ministries, should be active members of the church?  Or do you believe that they shouldn’t have to because the church is simply fulfilling its calling when it serves members of the community?

Are there certain ministries that you disagree with at your church?  Are you okay with watching new and innovative ministries, auxiliaries and activities, especially with youth or with other communities, grow up in your church? Or do you not like seeing Liturgical Dance, Hip-Hop Ministry and all of the other things that are popping up near the pulpit? Are some ministries or activities too inappropriate for church? What do you think?

How does your church show up, in attendance, in support and in love, for the minister of the hour, when your pastor is away?  Do you only go to church when you know who’s going to be preaching and do you avoid church when certain ministers are preaching?

Do people let their children run wild at church?  Is your spirit distracted when children and babies are too loud in service?  Do you feel that the church should provide daycare for parents in service so that the children aren’t bored and the parents aren’t bound?

Just hours after news has broken that Bishop Eddie Long has been named in a lawsuit alleging sexual misconduct with 4 young men, the internet is going haywire with commentary and comments.  WHERE DO YOU STAND?  Should we be talking about this or should we simply pray and leave it to the courts?

Lift Every Voice

Some churches have had building funds since their founding, but still don’t have a new building. Is the “building fund” in your church being effective or do you feel like it’s a sham and a promise to get money out of people beyond tithes?

“Lord, please don’t talk about that!”  So many times when tithing comes up in a sermon, the members buckle and the tone in the building suggests that all the church talks about is money.  In a time when the church is asked to do more and more for the members, from providing day care to acting as a single ministry meeting place, why are members uncomfortable with following the part of God’s Word that commands us to give 10 percent back?  Where do you think the money is going and why does the subject fire up such fodder?

While the Catholic Church and the Pope are being pushed to handle the scandal of child sexual abuse, is the Black church being completely silent on the subject?  The whispers and woes of young people who have been subjected to the sometimes manipulative power dynamic of leadership in the church is just becoming a public topic.  Is the Black church mute on the subject and are our young people paying with their bodies?
