Lens On Talent: Roger Bobb

On the last episode of “Lens On Talent,” host Kim Fields was joined by Roger Bobb, executive vice president of Tyler Perry Studios.

When Fields isn’t hosting “Lens On Talent,” she’s usually working for Bobb at Perry’s studio in Atlanta as a director on “Meet the Browns” and “House Of Payne.”

What’s Tyler Perry’s key to keeping the comedy fresh?

“I think he has a knack, especially specifically to the film, of tapping into the pulse of what’s happening in the country and what’s happening in the minds of his viewers,” Bobb said on Perry. “The thing is, we all ultimately go through the same things in life, just maybe with different people. You can change the characters and the scenery but ultimately when you look at life or cinema or television, those things are relevant in all of it.”

The featured film on Sunday’s episode was “Cocoa Love” by James Bland. The film is about Tyler and Kiera, a young couple living in Los Angeles that have been dating for two years. When Kiera’s dog, Cocoa, (which was a gift from Tyler) suddenly dies, Tyler takes upon the task of planning a funeral for the dog in an attempt to help an emotional and grief-stricken Kiera get over the lost. Things spiral out of control when the funeral service is interrupted by a series of unexpected events, turning the already chaotic day of events into a misadventure of mayhem, secrets and surprises.
