Sup folks! Stellar Awards weekend in Nashville was a beast. It was literally non stop and I don’t think I slept the entire time. Well I’ve had some time to regroup and decompress. You didn’t think I was just going to go and not tell you about it right? I can be selfish and funny acting but Im’ not that bad.
My first major event of the weekend was the 11th Annual BMI Trailblazers Of Gospel Luncheon to honor Donnie McClurkin & Andrae Crouch at Rockettown. Not only was it my first event of the weekend but it was also my first BMI luncheon ever. After hearing about it for all these years, I was excited to finally be in the mix. As soon as I walked into the venue I knew that it was going to be first class all the way. Read the rest of this entry »

What’s up folks! It’s been a minute I know, but I’m back in full swing. Honestly (I don’t know any other way to be), the demands of my “real job” were getting the best of me (check the “about Torrence” section since some of you still don’t know
) and the VERY LONG Stellar Award’s weekend took a chunk out of me, so I had to have a little bit of detox. But I’m baaaaaaack! So, moving on…
Yesterday The Mighty Clouds Of Joy, one of the most legendary gospel quartet groups in the game, released a new CD “At The Revival.” Read the rest of this entry »

This post may be short. Because it’s really not about my “commentary” but about the song and the cause.
During this past Stellar Awards weekend, Kirk Franklin and a TON of the gospel artists in town came together to record a song to inspire, comfort and raise funds for the people affected by the recent earthquakes in Haiti. A gospel “We Are The World” if you will. I think the gospel industry ought to be commended for this effort and I support it fully and hope you will too. Read the rest of this entry »

So, it’s a new year and I’m trying some new things! I want to introduce and welcome Latayla Andrews to the “The Gospel According To Torrence” family. It’s no secret that I’m a gospel lover and I try to cover all things gospel on the blog, but although “gospel” is a message, sometimes the lines get a little crossed when it comes to the STYLE that the message is presented in. So yeah, I love Gospel the message, and the style I “prefer” is gospel too. Just is. Now I’ve studied music, have an appreciation for quite a few styles of music and have worked in various music genres that may surprise you, so shut it down with the “open your mind” comments that I’m sure to come. I like what I like and that’s just that. There are no rules to this whole “taste” thing, so with that, I realized that I didn’t do my best with covering music on the CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) front. Well, that’s where Latalya comes in. Read the rest of this entry »

As I’ve mentioned before, this weekend I’ll be in Nashville for the 25th Annual Stellar Awards. And like I’ve also mentioned, like any other awards show, some the best events are the ones that happen before and after the actual show. For example, Clive Davis’ star studded (we use that term to much but it works) Pre – Grammy party is probably the biggest event that weekend outside of the Grammy’s. Well, when it comes to gospel and the Stellar Awards, the annual BMI Trailblazers Of Gospel Luncheon would be Clive’s equivalent! Read the rest of this entry »

I hope you enjoyed last night’s premiere of Celebration Of Gospel 2010. In my opinion, it was one of the best! If you missed it, you can watch the full show here!
But while I was there, I got a chance to sit down with Yolanda Adams, the gospel legend herself to catch up with her! Needless to say, this was another one of those “Torrence as groupie” moments. When you get to sit down and talk it up with a gospel game changer who’s not only gifte/anointed/talented (all of that) but is also visually stunning (stop being deep, you know she phyne!), it’s easy to get caught up!
But I’d like to think that I pulled it together enough to do a pretty good interview if I do say so myself. Watch! Read the rest of this entry »

Hey folks. BET’s 10th Annual Celebration Of Gospel airs this Sunday, June 10 @ 8 p.m. I think I’ve pretty much seen all of them, and I believe this very well may be one of the best. While I was there, I caught up with CoCo Brother, radio personality and host of BET’s “Lift Every Voice.” We talked about how he got into the gospel industry, choosing controversial guests for his show even the recent instances of “moral indiscretions.” Read the rest of this entry »
