EXCLUSIVE: Studio Updates with Y’Anna Crawley
July 23rd, 2009Sup folks! Sunday Best Season 2 may be over, but our winner Y’Anna Crawley is just getting started. Many of you ask me, “When is the CD dropping” or “what sound is she going for?, etc.” Well, I wanted to know too, so I did some digging and got some info and even a few photos from Y’Anna Crawley’s first studio sessions. So yes, she’s working on her album RIGHT NOW (literally as I was typing this post!) So make sure you check back for updates regularly, as they come I’ll keep posting ‘em. I know you want to know. I’ve got a “spy” (sounds like such a bad word) who’s been hanging out in the studio with Y’anna and they’re telling me EVERYTHING! Yay! (how corny right? ha!)
Here’s what I have so far…
Monday, July 20: – Y’Anna works on a track called “Stronger” with Buster of production team Buster and Shavoni. Y’Anna apparently comes out the gate singing her face off. (Did you expect her not to?) My “informant” (that better?) tells me this one is already looking like a favorite. To quote them: “Do it YAAAAAAAAAA!!!!” Wow! and this is just day 1.
Tuesday, July 21 – Y’Anna is working on a track called “You’re Still God” with Buster and Jimmy Wright (he’s a pretty big deal, google the man!) I hear you are NOT ready for the singing Y’Anna is doing on this song. It’s apparently REALLY churchy! (Translation, she’s HOLLERING, yes!) From what I hear, the album is going to be quite diverse. The music covers all styles.
Wednesday, July 22 – Y’Anna is knocking ‘em out! Tonight (because she was in the studio literally while I’m typing this), she is laying down the parts for an uptempo (why don’t we just say “fast”) track called “Right Now” with Shavoni Parker. And I mean all the parts, backgrounds and everything. It’s a club banga!!! The “informant” says, “This club driven track is infectious.” OMG, I can’t wait. I’m going to see if I can get them to call me for just a minute from the studio so I can listen in or something!!!
Now Y’Anni (that’s what they call her sometimes) gets her lunch/computer break on. I hear she sings, even when she’s on break. Tonight’s song? “Golden Lady” by Stevie Wonder. She’s really having a good time!
So yes, the album is coming because now we know she’s already started working on it!!! YEAH! Keep checking back with me, because I’m going to try and keep you as up to the minute as possible as I can on her progress. As much info as I get, I’m going to give it back to you. i remember i was over my friends and it was her final performance and i never heard her sing before. before she even hit a note i said “she is gonna sound like Phylis Hyman!!” sure enough she blew me away. i cant wait for her cd to drop. Y’Anna you are about to go places you always wanted.

I live all the way in St. Croix in the Virgin Islands and when I saw this ladies performance it was unbelievable I love her song “The Promise” i listen to the video version on you tube everyday before I go to work. I am so waiting for the single or album with this song to come out. I am not a church going person but I like the way we have moved to the younger generation to start getting into listening to the word in what we like mosr music. Y’anna coming all the way from St. Croix Virgin Islands keep up the good work.
All i can say is…. We the EASTERN “ramblers simple put know that Jesus loves u cause it’s in your high school books (93,94,95 & 96) God is doing great things for us right now so we gotta stay strong focused and deeply rooted in not only thee american dream but the dream of all our kings and Queens, drag-Queens. Fem-Queens and butch-Kinds like ME. he will be your first and last cause god is alpha and omega your begining and all our savior. oh BTW don,t forget to record with your Eastern senior high school choir & Robin Sugar Williams That collabo is the knock out for sure and they dont ever know what joce can do just let her continue to use you.
