Was Michael Steele a Stronger Fundraiser for the RNC?

Michael Steele must be feeling a bit self-satisfied today. Second-quarter fund-raising figures show that the Republican National Committee raised more money during the same reporting period in 2009 than current chairman Reince Priebus. There’s not a huge difference–$19.2 million compared to $19 million, but deep down inside Steele may be hoping for a trend. One of the reasons he lost his bid for a second term RNC chair to Priebus was so that the latter could clean up the financial mess he allegedly left behind.
The RNC has raised close to $37 million this year. It has $7.3 million in cash on hand and the committee’s debt has been reduced to $17.5 million.
