I would like to say that the “08″ BET Awards has truly brought back the magic to televison and the fact that the hosts for each year. has made you want to tune because they are the ones who keeps it moveing and thank god for Mrs.Debra Lee for bringing some of the old school for that was truely, wounderful to see Rev. Al Green because this younger generation really need to see the ledgens with class, and for them it was never about the BLING.

Why are we still insisting on seperation of blacks from other ethnic groups. “Black Entertainment Awards” Why? Would we have “White Entertainment Awards”? I don’t think so, this is 2008 not 1958, lets stop this we need to go forward as Bill Cosby says no more seperation!!!!

I loved the awards but have one comment, we are trying to show the younger generation how to dress, no pants below their buts and no foul language- what’s the deal!!!BET needs to set an example !!!!

BET..I enjoyed the show, although Nelly and some of the other young men who had have their behinds out kinda turned me off at first..but I tried not to focus on the bad and enjoyed the rest of the show. It was great seeing Al Green, Maxwell and Jill Scott perform. Also, I enjoyed Marvin Sapp and how you put all the pictures of our black people behind him as he sang. Also, I applaud the young people who ask everyone to come out and register to vote…This was such a positive move in how we all should stand together and make history for one of our own, who is intellegent and that can lead our country as well as any other person.

But to Nelly and the rest of the peformers who accepted awards holding on to their pants so they could get across the stage without them falling It was a disgrace…

To Nellie…You can sing without having your behind and underwear hanging out of your pants. It was a disgrace to see your pants and underwear all out. There were so many young kids in that audience that admire you and having them see how you and some of the others walked on that stage grabbing your pants, because they look as if they were going to fall to the floor was disqusting…
You should be a roll model for these young kids coming up after you. Show them that you can sing and do well without looking like a complete hoodlum.

I would like to say that the show was great! i enjoyed every performance from start to finish what i had a problem with was every one who performed names where pronounced correctly but when they got around to pronounce the gospel artist for the night it was screwed up! Being shut out in this manner therefore sparked a number of ingenious black business people, educators, thinkers and the lot to create avenues for their own communities to enjoy America’s freedoms as it were. While much has changed in this country, a lot remains the same. I agree that separatism is not wholly right but the expectation by one culture for another to totally assimilate is just as insidious. Good Reverend dear ponder this: when you’re clicking your TV remote channel surfing through ABC, NBC, CBS, and that list goes on, sweetie you’re watching W.E.T. … How many shows can you name on either of those media outlets that have any blacks in front of the camera or working in the background brining the programs you see to life for the public?

For as many talented entertainers of other races that are lauded in this country by the established industry, there are an exponential number of equally talented blacks who don’t get their due. The roles and opportunities aren’t there oftentimes and we have to create our own opportunities by footing our own projects that may only be picked up say by BET … it’s called entrepreneurship … it’s called being enterprising … it’s called survival and trying to make a living! Denzel had to play a stinking dirty cop to be recognized by the “Industry” but had played so many other roles before that role that were certainly Oscar worthy. The cop in Training Day, though was just the image that appeased the Academy because it’s how blacks “should” be portrayed OK … that ’s some twisted thinking.

I digress … at age 41 I’m not a huge fan of BET, MTV or VH1 for that matter because real music has died and much of their other programming leaves much to be desired. My point is merely when BET is GOOD it’s very good for the community it targets. There’s room for improvement but the same can be said for the entire nation. BE BLESSED PASTOR!

The BET Awards show was ok. Of course I’m “old-school”, I really enjoyed Al Green. I really enjoyed hearing Jill Scott. They could’nt have picked a better singer. And last but definitely not least….One of my greatest gospel icons Dr Marvin Sapp, singing the number 1 gospel hit on the charts for like 24 weeks in a row….Never Would’ve Made It…That man know he wrote that song for me. I don’t know what everyone is seeing with Ashanti and Nelly. Ashanti’s dress was not all that. Neyo ripped it and was as smooth as he could be. He is so under rated. I thought Usher was going to bring it. His performance was very dead to be an opening act. I missed Beyonce, Jay Z and Mary J not being present at the awards. T-Pain has his own incredibly unique style but the man got the crowd hype. It was good to see Maxwell. Alicia ripped the stage. I love SWV but Coco’s voice was a little off. It was good to see all four members of EnVogue. Anthony Hamilton is my all time favorite singer. However, his style and voice is so unique that he can only sing his own songs. If I’m not mistaken, wasn’t this the Dream’s first award? How are you not going to be there to accept your award. What’s going on with Nia Long. I miss seeing her on the big screen. I love Gabrielle Union but share some movies with Nia. As far as Ms. Nash, is was just a joke. D.L. Hughley is human and made an honest mistake calling Marvin Warren Sapp. I don’t know how that’s a huge disappointment. The girl earlier said Kesha Cole did a great job. Were we watching the same award show. She was horrible from her voice, her mannerism and the dance routine. I believe she was nervous being up that high in the air. She tried to get it together but it was too late. She had to look back at the dancers to see what dances she was suppose to do. Her makeup is never right. All I have to say is that blue eye shadow. She normally gives a good performance so I do believe this was a fluke but she’s going to have to redeem herself. Lil Wayne was the perfect finale.
