Soul Train Awards 2010 proved to be a magical night. From the Legendary tributes to both Anita Baker and Ron Isley to Doug E. Fresh teaching CNN’s Wolf Blitzer how to Dougie, the show was jam packed full of suprises and amazing performances.

If you were lucky enough to attend the show’s taping in Atlanta, you probably were wondering what happened to some of the greatest moments…including performances from Tank, Eric Benet and Gyptian. Soul Train was and will always be a hotbed of the newest fashion trends. This year’s Soul Train Awards didn’t fall short on its sartorial legacy. From all black ensembles to sequined jackets and over the top accessories, we are counting down our TOP FIVE FASHION MOMENTS.

1. Chrisette Michele

With mega-stylist—and co-host for the STA Pre-Show—June Ambrose as her personal stylist, its no wonder this songstress (pictured above) was D.O.A. (Decadence On Arrival). Conjuring the sartorial spirit of madmoiselle Josephine Baker, she hit the purple carpet in an all black ensemble and turban. Definitely Soul approved.

2. Janelle Monae

The pint-size wonder was a staggering style story as she hit the Soul Train purple carpet clad in her signature tuxedo and six inch Fendi pumps. Sole approved!

3. Ron Isley

The Soul Train Legends Award reciepient was classically chic. Black Tuxedo, crisp white shirt and his signature cane; Mr. Biggs was in full effect.

4. SWV

These Sisters With Voices were Sisters With Style. LeeLee, Taj and Coko hit the soul train dressed in all black and showed off some amazingly maintained figures. If this is what a comeback looks like. Welcome.

5. Rick Ross (pictured with Faith Evans and DJ Khaled)

Four diamond Jesus-pieces might seem a bit gaudy, but we’re loving it!

It’s no secret the Rick Ross walk-out at the Soul Train Awards 2010 has saturated the Internet. Tweets, blogs, interviews, news flashes…you name it, it’s all been done by Chrisette Michele.  The reason for his walk out is unclear, but who wants to dwell on the negative?  Not us. We are keeping this train on track to present you an amazing awards show. Would we have loved to witness Rozay’s performance of “Aston Martin Music”? Of course. But we will find solace in these pics taken of the pair during rehearsals. They look happy, don’t you think?

After a 10 year hiatus Sade’s ‘Soldier of Love’ was probably the most highly anticipated album of 2010. Her voice is timeless and this album proved that she hadn’t missed a beat. Soldier of Love became Sade’s first number one US debut, and went Gold in it’s first week. To date the album has sold over 1.2 million copies.

Soul Train recognized the projects greatness as it was nominated for Album of the Year and Song of the Year for the title track. Make sure you tune in on Sunday, November 28th at 9pm EST to find out if she takes the trophy. Until then check out footage of how this amazing album was put together.

Billboard recently released their list of the Top 50 R&B/Hip-Hop artists of the last 25 years. Unsurprisingly, the undisputed king of R&B, R. Kelly, topped the list. So how did Billboard come to this conclusion? Well the criteria was based on actual performance on the weekly Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts from Jan. 5, 1985 to Nov. 6, 2010

Including compilations and collaboration R. Kelly has released a total of fifteen albums. Sold more than 34 million records worldwide with seven No. 1 albums, twelve multi-platinum-selling albums, and eleven No. 1 singles. Congrats Kels!

The Soul Train Awards have been recognizing greats in music since 1987. Although they took a break after the 2007 show, we at Centric appreciated the brand so much that we decided to bring them back last year. This year’s award will air this Sunday, November 28th at 9pm EST and it’s definitely a show you don’t want to miss. But how can we celebrate the present without honoring the past?
