Allen Iverson Headed To China?

Published by Marcus Vanderberg on Monday, September 13, 2010 at 9:03 pm.

Stephon Marbury might not be the only NBA point guard to take his game to China.

Allen Iverson is considering the move as NBA teams have shown no interest in the 35-year-old guard.

“We’re very astonished, to say the least, that not one team has contacted us with any interest,” Gary Moore, Iverson’s personal manager said. “I just don’t understand it. What has Allen Iverson done to not warrant interest in him?

Just don’t understand it?

How shocking that nobody wants to take a chance on an aging, selfish guard who quit on two teams last seasons. Not to mention that Iverson allegedly has a gambling problem.

Might be time to cop that Rosetta Stone and work on your Chinese, A.I.

In case you haven’t reached that point yet in your lessons, that means goodbye.

Is This It For Allen Iverson In Philly?

Published by Marcus Vanderberg on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 2:40 pm.

Here we go again with Allen Iverson …

The guard has left the Philadelphia 76ers again to be with his ill daughter, but it might be the final straw for people within the organization.

According to Yahoo Sports, head coach Eddie Jordan told the 76ers that there is a chance Iverson won’t return to the team.

Management is looking to kick Iverson to the curb for good after just 25 games.

Philadelphia is headed out on a West Coast trip with games against Golden State, Phoenix, and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Iverson’s production has been disappointing, averaging less than 14 points a game in 31 minutes a night. Hardly worth the headache and baggage that’s associated with him.

If Iverson is released from the 76ers, could this be it for A.I.?

Nobody is going to take a third shot on him this season heading into the playoffs.

Kudos for being a great father and looking after his daughter  - –  I’m not going to bash him for taking time away from the team for doing the right thing.

But when you have a reputation like Iverson, that leash suddenly gets a lot shorter in situations like this.

Do you think we have seen the last of Allen Iverson?

Iverson, Bryant Pull Out Of All-Star Game

Published by Marcus Vanderberg on Friday, February 12, 2010 at 2:22 am.

The NBA All-Star Game is slowly turning into the Pro Bowl.

Kobe Bryant and Allen Iverson were the two latest players to pull out of this weekend’s game, replaced by Dallas Mavericks point guard Jason Kidd and New York Knicks center David Lee.

Bryant has missed the last three games for the Lakers because of injuries and Iverson had no reason being in the game except for the fans voting him in.

A.I. has missed the last five games because of an illness to one of his young children.

Hopefully these will be the last roster changes before the game on Sunday … assuming everyone makes it to Dallas.

The Dallas-Fort Worth Area was hit with a snow storm on Thursday that cancelled flights and left the media and some players scrambling for a way into town by Friday.

See, it’s not just New York and Washington D.C. that have been crippled this week by the weather.

(Did I mention 76 degrees and sunny this weekend in Los Angeles? Not to rub it in or anything…)

Iverson Returns But 76ers Streak Hits 10

Published by Marcus Vanderberg on Monday, December 7, 2009 at 10:18 pm.

Even Allen Iverson can’t stop the Philadelphia 76ers slide in the Eastern Conference.

#3 made his return back to where it all started on Monday night against the Denver Nuggets but it wasn’t enough as Philly’s losing streak hit 10 after a 93-83 loss.

Playing 37 minutes as a starter (and that’s important to note), Iverson had only 11 points and six assists on 4-for-11 shooting.

The days of the 76ers revolving around Iverson are long gone as Andre Iguodala is the new leader of this floundering franchise that falls to 5-16 on the season.

As he was introduced to the crowd prior to the game, Iverson went to center court and kissed the logo in an emotional and touching moment for the guard and the 20,664 fans in attendance.

The honeymoon phase will continue until Louis Williams returns from the injured list and head coach Eddie Jordan will have the decision on what to do with Iverson.

What did you think about Iverson’s return to the 76ers? Does he still have it or is his career on borrowed time?

Iverson Plans On Retiring From NBA

Published by Marcus Vanderberg on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:13 pm.

You know what I’m thankful for?

Allen Iverson deciding to retire.

The point guard, unable to find a team willing to take on his selfish ways, is planning on retiring from the NBA according to Stephen A. Smith.

Iverson still feels he can compete at a high level in the league but nobody seems to be interested in dealing with the drama associated with the 10-time All-Star.

He played just three games for the Memphis Grizzlies before both sides agreed to let him out of his contract.

It looked like Iverson would land with the New York Knicks but they decided to not sign the 34-year-old.

When the Knicks are turning you down, you know there’s a problem.

And while he’s a future hall of famer, whoever thinks Iverson had a better career than fellow shorty guard Isiah Thomas, they clearly must be under the age of 21 and never saw Zeke play in his prime.

Don’t let the 27 points per game scoring average fool you, boys and girls.

It’s easy to score nearly 30 a night in your career when you’re jacking up 22 shots a night.

Not only did Thomas average 20+ points five times in his career, he averaged nearly 14 assists a game one season – - Iverson never cracked more than eight.

Plus, last I checked, Thomas still had two rings on his fingers.

Iverson, who deserves props for getting the 76ers to the NBA Finals in 2001, is walking away with no bling … for now.

I got a feeling this won’t be the last we see of A.I.

Iverson, Memphis Part Ways

Published by Marcus Vanderberg on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 12:27 am.

Well, that didn’t last long.

After playing just three games with the Memphis Grizzlies, Allen Iverson is on his way out of town.

The two sides have agreed to a mutual end of his one-year contract and the point guard will be placed on waivers.

And of course who is the one team that is showing an interest in Iverson…

The New York Knicks.

As if the Knicks are bad enough as it is, adding a selfish player like Iverson to their roster will do nothing except damage that organization even more.

Can we just ship him off to Europe somewhere? Let some other organization deal with him.

You won’t be able to convince me at this point that he’s worth the baggage that he brings considering his skills have diminished over the last couple of seasons.

Iverson Takes Indefinite Leave From Grizzlies

Published by Marcus Vanderberg on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at 3:01 pm.

The beginning of the Allen Iverson era in Memphis is slowly coming to an end.

Iverson returned home to Atlanta on Saturday, skipping the Grizzlies game against the Los Angeles Clippers to deal with “personal business.”

Head coach Lionel Hollins said Iverson’s departure from the team was “indefinite.”

“There’s no question that when he comes back we have to work some things out,” Memphis owner Michael Heisley said. “He’s got a lot of work to do, but we’ve all got to get on the same page. He understands what the conditions are. And we need to be less hyper about this along with Allen.”

For all you folks who felt I needed to retire for my previous post, now do you believe me when I said Iverson needs to leave the league?

Even if he gets out of his contract with Memphis, who would want to sign this guy?

Stay classy, A.I. and enjoy sitting at home in Atlanta.

Shut Up Or Retire, Allen Iverson

Published by Marcus Vanderberg on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 5:34 pm.

Oh, Allen.

What are we and the Memphis Grizzlies going to do with you?

You had to know before you signed that one-year contract with the Grizz that you weren’t going to start over O.J. Mayo and Mike Conley.

So tell me why you’re already throwing a fit about not starting?

“I had no problems with the hamstring. I had a problem with my butt sitting on that bench for so long,” Iverson told the Memphis Commercial-Appeal. “I’m not a sixth man. Look at my resume and that’ll show I’m not a sixth man. I don’t think it has anything to do with me being selfish. It’s just who I am. I don’t want to change what gave me all the success that I’ve had since I’ve been in this league. I’m not a sixth man. And that’s that.”

You were a sixth man last year and you will continue to be a sixth man unless a team wants a selfish, aging point guard.

Grow up or just retire, A.I.

Iverson Headed to Memphis

Published by Marcus Vanderberg on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 11:47 am.

And now, coming off the bench for your Memphis Grizzlies, Allen Iverson!

Errr?

The veteran point guard is headed to the Grizzlies and like everyone else, announced it over Twitter:

“God Chose Memphis as the place that I will continue my career.”

That’s a cruel trick God is playing if that’s the case.

Iverson is hardly a lock to start even on the Grizzlies with young guards O.J. Mayo and Mike Conley.

I still think going to Memphis was the wrong choice and he should have went with his old coach Larry Brown and Charlotte.

There aren’t enough basketballs to go around in Memphis for Mayo, Iverson, Rudy Gay and Zach Randolph.

Let’s see how this latest chapter in Iverson’s career ends.

A.I. To Memphis? No, I’m Serious.

Remember when Allen Iverson was arguably the best point guard in the NBA?

If I would have told you five years ago that Iverson would become a free agent and the only team to make a legit offer would be the Memphis Grizzlies, you would have thought I was out of my mind.

Sadly, that’s the reality of Iverson’s career at this point.

We are weeks away from training camp opening and Iverson is homeless … for now.

But the Grizzlies have made an offer to the point guard on Wednesday – - and Iverson shared the news via his Twitter page.

That’s not something I would be sharing with the world, A.I.

Of the three teams that have a legit shot at Iverson (Memphis, Miami, Charlotte), the Grizz have the most space under the salary cap.

Reuniting with former coach Larry Brown in Charlotte might be the best fit but he would have to take less money, which means you’re asking Iverson not to be selfish.

Yeah, that ain’t happening.
