Rio Lands The 2016 Summer Olympics

Ola, Rio!

Not even President Obama and first lady Michelle could convince the International Olympic Committee to bring the 2016 Summer Olympics to Chicago, with Rio de Janerio securing the bid on Friday.

Oh us greedy Americans…

I hope folks realize South America has never hosted an Olympics game before and the United States has hosted the most.

So why not let our neighbors down South hold one?

Plus, have you seen the eye candy in Brazil?

It’s no wonder why the IOC was quick to eliminate Chicago from contention.

This was the gamble President Obama took when he decided to become the first United States president to actively campaign for the Olympics.

He has to deal with the fact that he was unable to get things done in Denmark.

If you took a poll on what Obama’s priorities should be, I’m sure Olympics would be towards the bottom of the list.

In case you can’t wait until 2016 for your taste of Brazil, the country is also hosting the 2014 World Cup.

Can Obama Bring The Olmypics To Chicago?

Can President Obama charm the International Olympic Committee into selecting Chicago as host of the 2016 Olympics?

That will be the goal this week as Obama is traveling to Denmark in support of the United States bid before the IOC’s decision on Friday.

Other locations in the running include Tokyo, Rio de Janiero and Madrid.

According to The White House, Barack and Michelle “will both make presentations to the IOC during Friday’s session. They will discuss why Chicago is best to host the 2016 Summer Games, and how the United States is eager to bring the world together to celebrate the ideals of the Olympic movement.”

The last time the United States were hosts of the Summer Olympics were the 1996 games in Atlanta.

Not that I’m against the Olympics coming backĀ  to the United States but it’s interesting to see how much of a priority this is for the President.

I know Michelle has an attachment to her hometown, but if this were Los Angeles or New York instead of Chicago, would it still draw the same attention and support from Obama?

Doubt it.

Leave Our President Alone

Published by Marcus Vanderberg on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 6:09 pm.

I’m on the Disabled List and haven’t had a chance to update the last few days but I did manage to catch our President throw out the first pitch at the MLB All-Star Game in St. Louis.

Barack can’t even throw a first pitch without their being controversy and people questioning his every move.

OK, so maybe his pitch was 59 feet instead of 60-feet, 6-inches.

Who cares.

Leave the man alone.

He got the pitch to Albert Pujols in a straight line and that’s all that matters … right?

Sound Off: Barack Obama

Barack Obama

“I think it’s depressing news on top of what’s been a flurry of depressing items when it comes to major league baseball. And if you’re a fan of major league baseball, I think it tarnishes an entire era, to some degree. And it’s unfortunate, because I think there are a lot of ballplayers who played it straight.”

Dang, A-Fraud.

Way to disappoint our new President.

One can only imagine what kind of Bronx welcome Yankee fans will have in store come April.

Barack Obama Is Not a BCS Fan

Published by Marcus Vanderberg on Monday, November 17, 2008 at 8:53 pm.

President-elect Barack Obama is about change.

Even in college football.

During his interview on “60 Minutes” Sunday, Obama discussed his displeasure for the Bowl Champioship Series in college football.

I’m all for a President who is ready to get rid of the BCS!
